Common chamber enclosures are not as rigid as chambered (or seperate) enclosures without much bracing . you can also run just one driver if for some reason one stops working.
The reason I wondered about the dual chamber is that it's a fairly small enclosure which is generally fine without much bracing, and you lose space with the extra wood required (and some extra port volume) by doing 2 ports.

If the box fits the space requirements then great, it is true that you can run one at a time if need be, if space were becoming an issue though, the extra build work and lost space wouldn't necessarily be worth it.

 
if space were an issue i would have used one port, but i got the volume i wanted and it fit the space requirements so it works great. i also like the more symmetrical look of two ports
