Fine Tuning.

Today I just finished my first speaker install of my new PG Rsds, however I have a couple questions.. IMO I think I did a pretty **** good job considering it was my first install.

Anyways..

Due to my lack of funds, I couldn't get any sound dampening yet, so i'll probably do that next weekend. I was just wondering how much of a difference will it make? Also, should I go with one of the Dynamat brands or RAAMatt? Would about 40-50 Sq ft do the job? (02 Explorer). The factory speaker size is 6x8 I believe and I purchased the 6.5 so I had to make an MDF ring to mount it on. I need to buy some of the non hardening clay to fill in around correct? How much does that stuff cost about?

Another thing, how would I go about fine tuning my speakers? There's a few options and settings on my HU (Pioneer P390MP), but i'm not really sure what individual one does and such. I have a crappy amp I'm using at the moment it's an old MTX that does 75 x 2 @ 4 ohm I believe. (Just temporary till my 2 Ch kicker comes). I have the HPF set at 63, but on some songs the tweeters sound kind of "harsh".

Thanks in advance for the help.

where is the tweeter mounted? they shouldn't sound harsh. i know mine don't at all.

i would go with raamat over dynamat. that amount will be way more than enough to do both doors.

63hz i where i have mine HP'ed and they like it. for tuning just mess with tweeter angles, EQ settings if you have one, and t/a if you have it. other than that deaden the doors and just enjoy. :)

The tweeters are mounted kind of by the mirrors, right next to the dash.

I'm a complete noob though, I was messing around with it today and I thought the amp was on full range but it was on high pass. Therefore I was running HP on the amp as well as my HU //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

thanks for your reply man.

they might be a tad harsh because of that location. i have mine down low in my kick panels. if you have an EQ try playing with it to get rid of the harshness. you could also try angling them different ways and see if that helps too.

just use the HP on the deck, don't use both. it's no big deal though, it didn't hurt anything besides the sound.

Also remember to seal up any holes in the door panel with something solid...I like plexiglass or Lexan because it'll conform to the door panel with heat and be weatherproof.
yes seal up all those huge gaping holes. it will really help with the mid-bass response as well. i used aluminum flashing that i guess you would use on a roof or siding.

Yeah I just read the sound dampening thread, forgot that was there. I'll probably use plexiglass to fill in those holes. About the tweeter location, I only surface mounted them incase I wanted to move them.. Do you think I should move them below the woofer or somewhere closer? If that will take away the harshness on some songs, i'll probably do it...

Thanks for the replys.

try them somewhere lower but mainly farther away. putting them near the windshield even though it might be farther away will make them even more harsh most likely cause of reflections.

just try low and as far away from your ears as you can do, but keeping them somewhat close to the woofer.
