fiberglassing around tweeters on a-pillar?

has anyone done it?, i'm tryin to figure out how i'd do it, not alot of room to work with, i want the mounts to be about 2-3 inches from the top of the pillar, fired towards the driver/passenger, just curious if its been done, and how and where would i mount the sticks (dow rods) and how do they attach to the trim rings, etc, anyone just got any general info, i'd like to take this on in the next few weeks, along with tweeding my door panels....the pillars will be covered in black tweed when i finish them too...thanks for the help

this is the best i can do...lol can't tell much about it with black, and then the pic of it in place in the truck, its so dark, and my truck is facin the neighbors house and my flash aimed right at em, so i didn't take too many pics there...lol

find out where you want them.

drill hole for wire to pass through.

hot glue flush/angle cup in place.

either stretch fleece, resin/glass over cup, and/or apply bondo.

sand smooth.

prime.

paint.

I'd advise against using fleece, it's a little too thick for such a small project. A plain t-shirt plus a layer of mat/cloth would be just fine.

although its called fleecing, don't you use like a spandex polyester type material? it would seem to me that a t-shirt would be thicker and a lil harder to manage than that...?

to be quite honest. i woudlnt even fleece\cloth or apply any fiberglass at all.

its certainly not a load bearing structure, just a 'beauty panel' to cover the Apillar.

just get some kittyhair, sand down the A pillar, and clean it of any dust. hot-glue the tweetercup in place (remove the tweet) - then mix your kittyhair, and apply it in a smooth blob around the tweeter cup, and smooth it out with your fingers (using latex gloves of course) and feather the edges enough to ensure good sanding.

sand it down, throw a layer of extra light bodyfiller on after you sand up to 80~120grit sandpapaer and it looks how you want it. then sand with some really high-grit to smooth that layer of light bodyfiller until ultra smooth and all pinholes and low spots are filled. grab some matte grey spraypaint that matches your interior (SEM makes great paint products), spray from 10~20 inches to get desired paint texture. then give a last normal coat, and dry.

install tweeter carefully, run wire, install Apillar back in car.

You can use just about anything that will absorb the resin...most fleece is pretty thick, so it will absorb a lot of resin and wind up being very thick. A t-shirt or a thin type of fabric won't be as big.
