Fiberglass Kick panels **Need Help**

I'm about to start a new project for my truck. I've got a 99 Dodge 1500 single cab and I want to make my own kickpanels. There is a guy that's going to give me a quart of resin and catalyst and as many sheets of fiberglass as I need. So, my first questions are:1. How far will a quart of resin and caralyst get me?

2. Will I need sheets of fiberglass for the kickpanels, or can I just put resin on the fleece and have it harden?

3. Is there a tutorial or something to kind of help me along with fiberglassing since this is the first time I've messed with it before?

Now, the next thing is getting a nice set of components. I've looked at a couple

and

Could you tell me which one would be my best choice? I know people are going to say amp your speakers, but the plan it to unhook my rear 5.25's (since the sub box is covering them anyway) and hook that speaker wire to the crossovers then on to the speakers. My headunit (Pioneer 690 USB) puts out 22 watts, and right now my 6x9's scream so I'm not really worried about power.
Please amp your mids/highs. You have no idea what you're missing in terms of clarity and output, even if you just go buy a $20 cheap crappy POS amp, getting that extra power to them makes worlds of difference

Well, 5 oz sounds a lot better than 1/2 a gallon. What I have been thinking I need to do is stretch fleece over it, put resin on the fleece and let it dry, then put about 3 layers of fiberglass on it. I'll most likely get a guy I know to wrap it in vinyl to match my interior. Does this sound strong enough? It's not like I'm gonna be smashing them with my feet all the time, and I don't think a 6.5 it going to move that much so I won't worry about flex issues.
He used 2.5 oz cups at a time, 5 oz might be enough for one layer but you need like 7-12 layers

When doing a layer rip apart the fiberglass matte and resin the surface you're about to apply to, in order to get the glass to stick, then wet it out and get the air bubbles out, if you get a fiberglass roller, that can also be used to get air bubbles out.

Check out some videos on you tube so you can get a good idea of how fiberglass is applied.

WHAT?!!?!? he isn't building a box for a pair of XXX or some shit. Kick panels for 6.5's aren't going to need 7-12... MAY BE 3-5 depending on the cloth. I used some THICK fleece SOAKED in resin and then a single layer of 2oz mat fallowed by a layer of long strand fiberglass filler then a layer of bondo. and if they are stron enough to hold 110lbs i think they will work fine for some 6.5's

Hell, my fiberglass box i made for a pair of 10's a couple years back was only 8 layers, body kits on cars are only like 7 layers and they are stiff as ****!

Well, right now my 6x9's scream since i've got more settings to adjust on my Pioneer (built in eq) compared to my old Alpine 9827. My 6x9's are louder than I kid I know with a pair of Type S 5x7 components and a pair of Type S 6x9's, all of which are amped with about 40 watts a piece going to them. And I've tuned that amp so it's getting max power and clarity. So I honestly don't think I'll need an amp, unless I'm going to become an sq guy, which won't happen any time soon. And I agree with k_schutte, I'm not going to be building a hard core sub box or stomping the kickpanels everytime I get in the truck, so I don't see why a thick layer of fleece and a couple of layers of fairly thick fiberglass won't do.

Just an update, I bought the PG RSD 6.5's off sonicelectronix, so when they come in I'll get some pics. And I should be getting the fiberglass in the next couple of days so I'll be starting soon on this little project. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
