Fi SP4 D-1 question

For the SP4 D -1 owners who have used this driver wired in series on an amp that is stable only down to 2ohms-

Have you ran into problems with shutdowns etc.... or has the setup worked OK while being maxed?

Also if you could add what type of box it was in - sealed or ported.

Nothing more than what I ask in my OP. The only additional question I would add is what type and size of box was being used. I will edit my first post.

What's your electrical? Sounds like amp is heating up and going into protect for a few seconds. But you didn't tell us much so it could be many things.

I don't want to derail this thread - with that said I will give a little insight.

These are being using in a home setup with pro audio amps. Everything is done 'right' for the situation at hand.

I'm pretty sure the driver/enclosure combo is sending the amp a decent impedance dip causing it to hit protect mode for a couple seconds. It's not heat related. Most nominal 2 ohm drivers should not be dipping so low it causes a problem for a *solid* rated 2 ohm stable amplifier, but of course there are exceptions with drivers.

Also to add is the DCR of the SP4 is a bit lower than the other drivers I've had on the system, or plotted in winisd.

The SP4 18 plots lower than a few other drivers I have in winisd when viewing the impedance chart. With that said there are so many variables it's impossible to hang the hat on a winisd plot.

So- hopefully that cures the curiosity and we can continue to share experiences of d-1 sp4s being wired in series and hammered on amps that are only stable down to 2 ohms. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Mine was in 4cf tuned to 30hz. It slammed

I do have another question(s) for you. What size was your driver, and what type of ported enclosure was it? I'm curious see what winisd puts the impedance at with your configuration.

I would be glad to help you more just like anyone else on this forum but your question is kinda vague. If you have a good working amp on a solid electrical and gains set correctly you shouldnt have a problem with (shutsdown/Protection mode). But none of us here know what you have because you havent went into further detail about your problem

Thank you. I really don't need help with my problem, I'm just curious if others are having issues with their SP4 18 d-1s running at an amps rated minimum ohm load.

In the next couple days I'll be plotting an impedance chart of my setup. Just gotta find the time.
