Fi Q on a Hifonics brutus 1200?

So I decided to get rid of my 12" L7 and go a sound quality build instead, I don't want to buy a new amp though. I have a HIfonics brutus 1200. The sub I am interested in is the Fi Q. Now I want sound quality but I still want it to hit.. my L7 hit hard, but sounded like garbage. I was running the L7 at 2 ohms for a 900 rms load, i figure if I get the D2 Q 12" and run it at one ohm for 1000-1200 in a ported box it will hit pretty hard and this sub will sound alot better. Am I right? Will this setup bang and sound pretty decent? I am pretty new to car audio so if I need to give out more detail just ask //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I ran almost this exact setup. Except mine was a Q 18 on a BRZ 1200. Coming from 2 CVRs on a zx750.1.

Wasn't horrible sounding. Hated the amp, but the sub may have done better in a better setup or maybe I expected too much.

It's a nice SQL woofer, but I wouldn't call it an SQ woofer...

The Brutus should be a good mate for that sub I would think. Not sure if you are talking about the brz line or not but the brz 1200 I have actually doesn't sound too bad as far as most class d's go. I've had bigger and better built amps for sure but that does always equate into a good sounding amp. The BRZ1200 sounded decent to me

Why did you hate the amp? Mine is getting pretty hot this summer, too hot to touch very long. I was wondering if people bought aftermarket fans for there amps and if so what would you reccomend for my amp? How do you think the Q will hit on 1200 watts compared to my L7 on 900? I chose the Q because its under 300.. my budget is pretty much right at $350.

This is my exact amp

I hated the amp because it was insanely inefficient and ran way too hot for my liking. I put fans on it and it still didn't help much.

Depends on a few variables as to how different they'll sound....honestly, what is it you're not liking about the L7? Not getting low? Does it honestly sound like crap or have u been hearing ppl say L7s sound like crap and went with it?

I liked the L7 alot, that thing beat. I just want to try a different style on my second setup, and to be perfectly honest I think i damaged the sub, the other day I was on the highway and the sub just started hitting about half as hard as it was and the sub started getting the burning smell for the first time. I rewired Everything and the only way I can get it to sound like it did (and it just wont hit 100% the same) is if I turn the gain up more then i ever have and boost the bass alot on the amp. I had this setup for a year and a half.

Understood man.

I say give the Q a go then. Lots of people love them. I wouldn't mind trying another out myself now that I know more than I did back then.

Also, be sure to set your amp gains and everything correctly so u don't blow it. Sounds like u may have clipped the L7 to death.

When I buy the setup, can I just pay a car audio shop to tune it and make sure its not clipping and ****? I read how to do everything before i do it and i read just turn it up til you could hear clipping, i honestly never could hear clipping but i never turned it up more then like 70% gain and i kept it at like 60%-65% i think. I definitely dont want o damage the Q. Also you all agree on getting the D2 and running it at one OHM?

Invest in a DMM and google the DMM method to set your gains.

Yes get the D2 and run it at one ohm. Also, may wanna look into doing the big 3 if u haven't already.

how about you get the re sx 12 d2 old school american made amp built by the owners of fi and psi before they left re audio, one of the best subs they ever made and only has 2 hours on it. 200 shipped

Re Re Audio SX Series Sx12-d2 12 Dual 2ohm Subwoofer

save some money and then buy a better amp like

REFURBISHED CADENCE Z1200 CLASS D 2400 WATT COMPETITION MONOBLOCK CAR AMPLIFIER | eBay

american made direct from cadence, way underrated, this would be a much better amp and betetr setup and you will save money.
