fi q box

I'm going ported, FI says to do anything from 2.6 to 4 cu. ft. I figure I can use one of the free box designs in the sticky. Will I notice a difference if I use the "3.5 cu. ft. @ 32 hz #1", or the #2 or #3? Also what would be the differences in sound using a 2.6 or a 4 cu. ft. box?

I have never built a box before but I have a friend who has done 2 or 3... is it really that hard or can I figure it out with the right tools and patience?

yeah my bad its a 15", the picture under free box plans is gone for 4 cubes, but 3.5 is still there, would that give me less sq having a smaller box?

a kicker 08zx750.1 benched at 928 rms. Since it is a little less than what is recommended (1000 watts) should I go for the 12? idk if more cone area and less power is a bad thing or not...

Same motor. The 15 will get louder than the 12 off the same power.

interesting, so would an 18" be viable with my amp? I have never even heard an 18" sub before..... I am assuming it gets much louder and maybe even "deeper". But would I lose SQ going to an 18?

To the OP - I was wondering the same thing, don't mean to thread hijack but I was getting 2 15" Fi Qs (like the OP stated they need 2.8-4cuft ported. That means a box 5.6cuft-8cuft.

Like he said is there a difference in sound with a lower box (a "lower" sound?) I know the power handling decreases with larger enclosures but I don't know how that translates to what you hear. thanks

Do I need to account for space taken up by the sub? So would FI be recommending a "net" 2.8 - 4 cu. ft. or is that after displacement (counting the sub)?

interesting, is that box a 15"? Is there any difference using aero ports rather than a normal port? Also how does port direction affect the subs performance???
