Fi BL 12 inch subwoofer question.

Ok, the reason i am posting this is because i am planning on buying 2 Fi BL 12 inch subwoofers, for a camaro i am about to buy. The trunk for the camaro is different than most cars, and will probably not be able to fit a 5 cu. ft. ported box. I could get it custom made, but i don't think i will be able to pay 300 dollars for a custom box.

So i was just wondering if a sealed enclosure for the BL's will make a huge difference in quality/SPL. My brother tells me ported enclosures are the best for rap music (which is all i listen to), and that it will not sound good.

I realize that every subwoofer is different. So i would like someone with experience with this kind of subwoofer to answer this question.

Sorry if this is the wrong thread to be posting this, wasn't sure if i should put it in the enclosure section or subwoofer section. :p

Thanks.

Ported is best for rap?

Rap just has heavier bass notes than other genres, how well it sounds dependson the quality of the driver and the box it's in.

I dont know how the BLs do sealed, but I know for a fact they get down pretty mean ported.

And if you let someone from the forum build you a box, I bet you could get 4.5 cubes out of that Camaro depending on the year of it. They have more room than you think

Ported is louder, but drops off after tuning. Sealed is not as loud, but *generally* sounds better to me personally.

"Ported is best for rap"

That's just what my brother says, but he is a moron so that's why i am asking for help in this forum.

And MisterGrubbs, how much do you think it will cost for someone to build me a custom box for a camaro? Just an estimate if you can.

By the way thanks for the quick replies, that was insane :p

To get it done correctly? Probably 200-250

That ish is going to get loud in a hatchback though //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

And ported isnt best for anything, really, unless you're talking about competing(And it's still not always true). It's just louder. Louder = best in most people's brains.

I have heard my brothers Eclipse Ti SW9122 in his 2005 grand am, it's pretty loud, but i would prefer louder. I assume it will be much louder in a camaro, but after looking at a lot of videos of the Fi BL, i'm pretty impressed by how cheap they are, and how loud they can get. These are the two videos that really finalized my decision.

just to let you know, those vids are 15's. they will get somewhat lower and move more air. my 12 gets really low, but i dont have room for a bigger box, or money for a bigger amp, so i dont get winshield flex like that, well atleast i dont see it.

if you get those 2 12's, you should be loud as hell either way.
