ok, i have been look at FI audio. i have a zx750.1 putting out 930wrms. i was thinking about ssd12. as of now i have a 12" L7, in a ported box 2.5 cubic feet, tuned at 35Hz. now the L7 gets freaking loud. but, its get very distorted with some notes.

1. will the ssd be as loud or off by much?

2. how will the sound quailty compare to the L7 if put in the recommended ported box?

The sound quality will improve significantly, but I think the L7 will be a bit louder.

How much? Not sure.. but its still a **** good sub IMO

if your L7 is distorting something is not set right. properly set your gains, and turn off all bass boost. if you hear distortion your amp is clipping and that is not good

since someone is bound to do it, what is fi's website?

it cuts off frequencies below a certain point. that should be no higher then 80 hz. there is good amp setting information in the amplifier forum or on http://www.caraudiojunkyard.com i suggest you read up and reset your amp cause it doesn't sound like you set it up good.

sounds like your x-over is too high, and/or your getting port noise from certain frequencies

One of my friends just got his 12" SSD, and to me, it sounds a lot better than the L7 i heard. Both in sealed boxes, however. The L7 was louder to me, but the SSD just sounded clearer.

Ported could be a whole different story.

Other companies in that forums are US amps (Re Audio owners), Stereo Integrity (the makers of the SI mag) and Soundspliter..

So the members there are pretty much all gung-ho about speakers subs

I personally would go with an ssd because in the right box off of 900 watts it would be plenty loud for me and sound **** good.

If i read correctly he has a ported box, so the statement about the sealed box is useless. Also l7s are not ment to be ran sealed. His problem is not the woofer its self, but the install.

my ssd is louder than my L5's were if that helps

i put L7's to shame. and sound alot cleaner doing it.

If you get an ssd, get the flatwind coil for alittle extra power handling. If you want a 10, im selling mine. 20 min of play time on about 950w
