fastest uve driven?

Josh, is your car a 6sp 5sp or auto? and also i heard that the 6sp is weaker than the 5sp, is that true
The 6 speeds have no weaknesses that the 5 speeds dont also have. Neither is better than the other in that regard, but the 6 speed has closer gearing and thus is better for acceleration because of the subsequent gear ratios. All 93+ V8 cars come with 6 speed manual transmissions. 93-97 LT1s had a Borg Warner built T56 that was a bit stronger thant he 98-02 LS1 Tremec built T56s. The autos are all 4L60E trannies and have all the same weaknesses. My car is an auto and there is a reason for that. Auto F-Bodies (and most other cars) with a nice big stall and a solid transmission are much faster and generally more consistent than their 6 speed (or manual) counterparts in drag racing which is my thing, but I have autocrossed my car against other F-Body cars both manual and automatic and I've won and lost to both types, really just driver. Most people dont believe me when I say that autos are faster and I have to go digging for evidence, so if you dont believe me just let me know and I'll go get the list of the fastest LS1s in the country so you can see that all of them are autos, or you can take my word for it.

NOTE: The 4L60E has a much stronger 1st gear than the T56 which gives us the better acceleration, but on the higher end we lose out because of the more efficient manual. We're good up to about 80-100 MPH or so, but after that the T56 cars start coming back on us HARD!!! Not a big deal in the 1/4 mile in a drag race or on shorter distances like the straights on autocross courses, but on a road course where you can get up alot of speed, no replacement for the manual.

as of 2004, chevy, toyota, and honda are the only people in the IRL motor program.
I can do the research and find out what years they won 11 IRL races in a row. I doubt that they are still using the engine considering Oldsmobile is no longer together. But as of 2000-2001 I believe they were still using it.

Oldsmobile = Chevy = GM = Cadillac = Pontiac = Buick = ....... I could go on...
just as ford = jaguar = lotus = lincoln = mercury = mazda.... we all know that a mazda isnt quite a jag. your ignorance is amazing. chevy is a specified sub company of GM. if i said that GM was producing motors fr the IRl motor program, then you might have a point, but the motor that they use is a purpose built motor specialy deesigned by chevy's engineers.

Looks like I'm going to stop coming to this site, because dipshits just like you want to be so quick to throw out retarded comments like "your ignorance is amazing" rather than trying to make a valid point. For once people, show a little god **** maturity and if someone says something wrong, try to correct them without flaming them. Jesus Christ. "Woo hoo, look at me, I'm a keyboard commando." Grow the **** up.

Now, let me clarify. Ford bought Jaguar, not quite the same thing, and I didn't say they were. But what I did say and what I meant was GM is the parent company to Chevy, Olds, Buick, and the lot, therfore making them essentially the same cars with the same roots. There are a few parts swapped here and there, and a Tahoe will never be an Escalade, but they use essentially the same engine. I'm not talking about the overall quality of the car or anything, Aurora mentioned an Olds engine being used, and Olds was a GM product, and Chevy is a GM product, and there are engines in both Olds and Chevy cars that are identical pretty much. Thats the poine I was getting at. GM and Subaru also work together sometimes, but you didn't see me lump Subaru in with that group did you? I didn't say anything like that. I was vague in the first post, this clarifies my statement earlier.

See, simple enough. I said one thing, you disagreed (although you made it a point to insult me in your reply as well) but my second paragraph was a simple reply clarifying what I was saying earlier. No flames, no cuts, just a reply. Not too hard. It's called respecting other people. Give it a shot sometime, it'll get you a heck of alot further in life than talking shit will.

Wonderbread hit the nail on the head. For MOST applications, its an auto. Now we're talking street cars or semi-street cars, not Pro Stock, Funny Car, and Top Fuel beasts or anything using a ProGlide or the like. There are a few people out there that will run 5 and 6 speeds, but for the most part, you're either running an auto or looking to swap out your manual for an auto. If you see alot of people running sticks at the local drag strip, it's probably because they prefer a stick in everyday driving and want that "connection" to the car, and are just drag racing for fun. The guys that get REAL serious 90% or more of the time have an auto. On the drag strip it's VERY hard to beat a car with decent HP, a built ******, a big stall, and a transbrake. They are going to leave so hard off the line that the manual guys will be playing catch up all the way down the track, and probably never will catch up given the cars are close. Things would change if you were going over 1/4 mile but in drag racing thats just the way things are.

Because during acceleration the weight transfers from the front of the car to the back, putting more weight on the back tires, which pushes down on the drive wheels if your RWD and helps aid traction. I'm not really sure where the FWD crowd came up with FWD being better for traction since that defies physics completely. Acceleration makes the front wheels lift and takes away traction from those tires, making them spin easier. I think its just a lie that the FWD crowd started to help make them feel superior over the RWD crowd, just like many think that their stock Civic would lose off the line to a V8 car but come 80-100 MPH the Civic will slingshot ahead since they've got "m4D VTEC t0P enD y0" :p Just one of them things, best thing to do in cases like that is just to not say anything. Its hard not to say anything because they dont want to believe you, so nothing you say will be right even if you're reading from a physics book written by Newton himself. To them FWD is better hands down, no questions asked. Same goes for any number of things in the car world. People want to think what they have is the best and wont hear anything else. It would be so much better if some people actually took the time to realize no car is perfect or better than another car overall, just a certain things. But just like the sub everyone has has to be the best, so does their car and everything else they have. In the past year or two I've found it very interesting to watch how people react when questioned about what they have, because what they have is always the best, and whatever new they get becomes the best even if it was worse than what they used to have. Pretty funny actually. I'm rambling though, I'll shut up //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

i want to add to what josh stated earlier

in top fuel dragsters funny cars..whatever....they don't use a ******...they use a series of clutches and have a direct 1 to 1 ratio....no ****** on this planet can hold the 6000+ hp those monsters are making

in some lower classes u will see ppl shifting gears..BUT they(well some) are indeed running an auto...but due to the shift points, they have them set up so they have to shift to the next gear, so that the motor stays in it's power curve.

also, a auto ******(due to it's torque convertor) is more consistent launching then a stick could ever hope to be..and like josh eluded too, u can put a lower first gear in an auto and help with the hole shot..the advantage a manual has is that it creates less parasitic drag and thus there is less horsepower loss from the motor to the tires...hence the higher top speeds manuals are able to achieve..in identical cars.

as too the fwd..rwd thing...indeed a rwd will holeshot a fwd due to weight transfer..

a fwd main advantage is in day to day driving, by having the weight of the motor over the driveline and tires, in inclement weather the fwd does indeed achieve better traction..that is it nothing more. if a fwd car handled better, accelerated better then irl, nascar, nhra and so on would be dominated by fwd cars, but they are not.

as too the ford=lincoln=mazda...not really. josh AND bri are both correct..to a point....most of those car companies were purchased by the others and some do indeed swap parts..platforms..etc. however, some things are brand specific..ie sheet metal, engine sizes

where josh is most correct, is instead of flaming, just state what u have to say and move on...like me....

wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
