The 6 speeds have no weaknesses that the 5 speeds dont also have. Neither is better than the other in that regard, but the 6 speed has closer gearing and thus is better for acceleration because of the subsequent gear ratios. All 93+ V8 cars come with 6 speed manual transmissions. 93-97 LT1s had a Borg Warner built T56 that was a bit stronger thant he 98-02 LS1 Tremec built T56s. The autos are all 4L60E trannies and have all the same weaknesses. My car is an auto and there is a reason for that. Auto F-Bodies (and most other cars) with a nice big stall and a solid transmission are much faster and generally more consistent than their 6 speed (or manual) counterparts in drag racing which is my thing, but I have autocrossed my car against other F-Body cars both manual and automatic and I've won and lost to both types, really just driver. Most people dont believe me when I say that autos are faster and I have to go digging for evidence, so if you dont believe me just let me know and I'll go get the list of the fastest LS1s in the country so you can see that all of them are autos, or you can take my word for it.Josh, is your car a 6sp 5sp or auto? and also i heard that the 6sp is weaker than the 5sp, is that true
NOTE: The 4L60E has a much stronger 1st gear than the T56 which gives us the better acceleration, but on the higher end we lose out because of the more efficient manual. We're good up to about 80-100 MPH or so, but after that the T56 cars start coming back on us HARD!!! Not a big deal in the 1/4 mile in a drag race or on shorter distances like the straights on autocross courses, but on a road course where you can get up alot of speed, no replacement for the manual.
