Preston Caught a Predator
I'm not completely sure I understand why people are so in love with Brett Favre.
Because he has, in fact, had a great career.
Isn't he a former alcoholic? I don't think so. The league did, however, prohibit him from drinking cold beer while he was in the drug program for his addiction to pain meds.
Isn't he a former painkiller addict? Yes. Those things are addictive and I am sure he had a legitimate reason for taking them in the first place considering his occupation.
Didn't he assault his wife? I don't recall that.
A lot of people call him the greatest QB ever, which is nothing short of complete BS. Sure, he holds the record for most completions, most passing yards, and most TD's, but he also holds the record for most attempts and most interceptions. Really, he is just a quarterback who throws the ball a lot...especially when he shouldn't.
You also have to factor in the fact that he has played a lot of downs in the NFL. His ability to stay on the field is an impressive feat in and of itself.
He may not be the greatest QB of all time, but he is one of the greatest. On top of that, he is one of the most entertaining.
The fact is that the Packers are an organization that is trying to do long-term planning. Rodgers was their 1st round pick in 2005! How long do you expect them to sit on this guy without developing him? If Favre stayed as the starter for at least one more year, Rodgers would be 26-27 by the time he was making his first start. Even worse, it would be a contract year: how do you possibly make an informed decision on your #1 draft pick and potential future QB when he's only played one season?
I don't really disagree. The organization was in a tough spot.
Good riddance, Favre! No primadonnas necessary!
Many of us are glad to see him continue to play. Football fans will miss him when he finally retires.
And that's all I have to say about that.
