I recently decided that Im going to try and tackle building a false floor for my 2 amps!! I was wondering if anyone knows of a good tutorial or maybe some tips and tricks on how to build a good one??

Thanks

I figured I would show what Im currently working with! Its clean, I just want to get the amps down so I can get it a little cleaner, and get some use with my trunk.

Here's how I'm currently building mine -

I threw a 1/2" sheet of mdf cut to the trunk floor under the amps/blocks and mounted them there. I'm going to put another piece over top of them with some plexi in it to see the amps.

There's really nothing to it.

Cut a mounting board to the shape you need, mount amps to it, build 3 inch or so (depending on your amps) high walls on each side. Then lay a board on top that so your amps sit flush. If your design allows, velcro the top beauty panel on so it's easy to remove and absorbs vibration.

I love velcro and beauty panels. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif Good luck.

you really shouldn't use smaller gage wire for your ground. if anything the power can be smaller, but not the other way around.
x2!!!!!! If anything, the ground is MORE important....assuming you have your power set up correctly. Fix that ASAP.

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it when someone takes the time to show of the components and hides the wires! It looks so much more proffesional! good job JACE!

My ex took a piece of cardboard and just made a template... if the surface those amps are mounted on now is solid... you can literally take a level and measure the height from the existing floor to the new "baffle" then attach your base support pieces--that was the easiest way to do it...there are MQANY options! -- we had one EQ unit that was thinner than the amp so we just used some washers and longer bolt to get it up to the same height as the top of the tallest amp...

Thanks for all the replies so far! I like the pics of the mustang, good skills, seems the way I was gonna go as well. I know I have to update that ground on the Alpine, and the stains are from some shit that spilled a couple times!! Its leak free thank god!!

So should I maybe build 2 seperate carpeted enclosures for each amp to make it more pro looking? Then attach those to the base, and cover them with the false floor with the holes cut out to match the amps?

What do you mean by velco beauty panels, any pics?

Thanks All!!

No pics sorry, but what I'm saying is rather than build the amps into their own "enclosure", just mount them and lay a trim (beauty) piece over them with the cutouts....it will give the impression that they are actually enclosed.

The panel can be velcroed on the edges to lay on top of the amp rack...then you can take it apart quick, wrap the trim piece in a covering of your choice, and save time building.

Just place your amps on a sheet of half inch MDF then you build a cutout that slips over the amps so that the top of the amps is even with the top board. You will have to build little feet or do something to hold up the top sheet.
