Factory HU / New amp & speakers...Qustions

I've been collecting equipment for my 2011 4runner and have a few questions. I plan to keep the factory head unit (non JBL) and add an Audio Control LCQ-1, JL 700/5 amp, Sub and Component front stage. I've installed many systems but never retained the factory head unit. I get everything but, the connection to the HU. The 4runner has 8 speakers, I only plan to use the front door components, rear door mid-woofers for fill and a single sub.

What is the best way to cut into the factory wiring harness to get high level out to the LCQ-1 ?

I have some Streetwires "9 wire" and thought of maybe using bullet connectors so that these wires can be reconnected later if needed.

Any ideas on this is greatly appreciated

I'm not exactly sure what your trying to ask here bud. But If I am not mistaken those systems only have the common four channels running out of the HU so you can tap into the front left and front right for all of your signal. If you are asking for advice on how to do it. I recommend getting a pair of those wire strippers that pull the coating off of the wire because you can just separate and open a wire without cutting it with these pretty easily. Then with the wire exposed, make a hole in the middle, thread your new wire into it...twist...then if you can solder, and wrap in tape.

You have two places to get the signal. Before the factory amp or after the factory amp.

Tapping the factory wires After the amp requires you get a summing OEM interface since each speaker likely filtered in the amp - meaning no single speaker will have a full range signal. So you want to get the signal before the amp, but some systems have a fixed HU output and the amp provides internal volume control.

You first need to figure out what you are working with.

Since I don't have the JBL upgrade audio, I don't think there is an existing external amp. I guess my question was, How to cut into the existing wiring harness without making a total mess of it. I'd like to be able to return it to stock I will be running 4 high level channels out of the head unit to the Audiocontrol LCQ-1 which is a EQ & High Low......

Maybe I can find some 8 pin plugs and cut them into the speaker out from the hu.

Might as well call him a douchebag. Hate when people talk like that.

Easy way is to buy the matching Metra harnesses. 70-#### and 71-####.

This way you don't cut any factory wiring.

But don't think you only have external amps with premium systems. External amps are very common with new car multi-speaker systems. 8 speakers is more common with external amps.
