hey guys

i have a 06 lexus gs 300

it has a Mark Lev speaker setup which comes w/ a factory 10'' sub

it has very very nice mid range bass but i wanted a little more bass output

i was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on which 10'' sub i could replace the factory with?

i was thinking of a 10'' jl audio w7 or something better money really isnt the issue but i would like a clean fit without any fabrication to the factory setup.

also what kinda amp should i run to power the 10''?

thanks in advance

ware is the factory sub located?? is it on the rear shelf behind the seats or is it stuffed on the corner of the trunk. take some pics of it location and we can help u out better.

if its on the rear shelf, its probably playing free air(no sub box) wich will be a problem if u want to keep it in the factory location. also there much better subs for the money then the W7. in fact there are much better subs. 3 or 4 years ago, the W7 was the ****, but noting has changed with the W7 in years, while other manufaturs have changed leaps and bounds. also depending on ware your sub is located the actual mounting dept of the sub can be an issue(how deep the sub is)

if your lookin yo add a little extra bass, look into something in the 3-500 watt power range for a sub.

ill try to get some pics for you tommorow ..

what other subs could you possibly recommend?

i havent been paying much attention to the whole speaker game for about 3 years now so im re virginized.

im looking to spend around 5-750 for the sub alone possibly up to 1000 .. but the price comes more from whether or not the sub will comfortably slide in as a replacement.

please inform me about the newer/better subs

LMAO......first of all....I havent seen many manufacturers change anything about a sub leaps and bounds. Secondly, the W7 has more patents and unique features to it than almost ANY sub manufacturer......3-4yrs old or not. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eyebrow.gif.fe2c18d8720fe8c7eaed347b21ea05a5.gif

My friend has the same car.

It does have some nice midbass and bass.

The sub is moutned in the rear deck correct?

If you added another sub, which you probably could, you would want to deaden the rear deck, as it does shake with the stock sub.

At our shop we do a lot of these type replacements. A W7 just simply isn't going to bolt up in that spot, as most woofers wouldn't either. There are two options we typically do.

#1 - You can bolt a Kicker Comp 10" up in that exact spot and it will run off the factory head unit OR if you have an aftermarket radio and you are letting the factory amp run the mids you can sometimes bridge the rear outputs of the radio (like a pioneer) and use their "70 watts RMS" (yes, I know it's not 70 true watts you flamers! lol) out of the rear channels and still have sub control. A really nice and inexpensive way to get just a little more kick.

#2 - if you want considerable more kick, we also typically bolt a CompVR up in that spot and run it off of a Kicker 400.1 that we tuck away somewhere nice and it adds hella kick to the factory system. Still a very affordable way to get some more bass.

Just some options for you to think about.

ps...both of these woofers are free air capable and require no modification of the rear deck or adding of a big bulky subwoofer enclosure.
