F***ed Hu

Ok. I'm pissed now. Friday morning, my radio (pioneer DEH-P77DH, if that helps) decided to crap out on me. When I got in my truck, the signal was full of static, and then it cut off completely. I could still hear a tiny bass signal coming out of my subs, but the rest of my speakers were dead. I have two tweets, two 6x9's and two factory door speakers running off of my HU, and none of them work.

The thing still picks up radio stations, reads and plays CD's, etc. but it is just not sending a signal out. For a while, when i would crank my truck, it would send a few staticky seconds of music to all of the speakers, so i know that my outputs aren't fried, but then the signal would get really bad, and it would cut off. Now, it just comes on, bursts static for >1 second and then goes quiet. I took it out of the dash and checked for any loose connections, but they're all good.

Any Ideas about WTF is wrong would be seriously appreciated, as i am getting really sick of listening to the portable radio i set in the passenger seat while my $1500 portable earthquake sits in there cut off at the knees.

Thank You,

Oggie

Now while this is not the section to post this type of question in let's try and figure this out. (for future reference you will probably get better responses in the proper section) Have you checked the run of the RCA's to the amps etc and made sure there was nto a short on them or partially cut wire? I would start here because typically those head units will not go out so easily like that. Check that out and make sure you are getting a proper signal. You can also (if you have it) get a spare RCA wire and free run it (as a temporary thing) to the amp to ensure that the other RCA is not the potential demon in the system.

the rca idea would be good, except that all his speakers are crapped out, not just the subs(he didn't say he was running speaker amps did he?). try a friend's HU and see if the HU is actually the problem, if it is then you will most likely have to replace it, or send it in for repair or something

ooops I missed that. My appologies there. Could also be tho a shorted wire or the preamp in the HU going bad

Originally posted by picklekx he said he has two 6x9s two tweets and too factory speakers. So thats 6 speaker on a 4 channel HU. Couldnt that fry the HU bringin in down to a lower ohm load?
not within 30seconds.......and being as the tweets and factory speakers r more than likely all the originaly factory set up......they probably equal 4ohms.......and the 6x9's would more than likely be on the rear load on the deck so again still 4ohms

ok. here's how my wiring is set up. From the HU, i have rca cables running to my amp (lanzar vibe 1200d). The amp is/was pushing my 3 jl 12w3's. The front outputs on the HU were powering the front factory door speakers. The rear outputs were running the 6x9's (JL Audio, 60watt rms) and i had spliced one tweeter into each rear line. This same setup had been running fine for over a year. There is nothing wrong with the sub outputs (rca's) because the amp is still not showing that there is a problem.

on another part of this BB, someone suggested that it might be a bad ground or a loose connection, but wouldn't a bad ground shut down the whole HU, not just the output?? and a loose connection or crossed wire would only shut down a particular line or two, right??? I figure that it is the internal amp fried and im gonna have to shell out about $225 to get a new HU.

Also, if you know of any company other than pioneer that makes a special fit HU for a dodge, let me know.

Thanks.

There are a few brands that make a HU for the double din dodge. Alpine I know also makes one and Clarion also has one. Check out the new pioneer's, alpines or clarions I would suggest. It seems that the internal preamp is out on the HU. Honestly have not seen one of those go out in a while on the pioneer's. Best of luck with ur new stuff tho
