to me, the instructions are crystal clear.The POS needs to be connected to a 12 volt IGNITION source. NOT constant battery, it must only have power when the vehicle is running.
This is why the relay is used,you don't want to overload the circut.Direct power from the battery is what actually feeds the power to the regulator the relay just provides a switch.You could use an open spot on the fuse panel but it is simpliar to just use the relay.to me, the instructions are crystal clear.
What you have done with the relay is created an ignition source. If you are capable of locating a suitable ignition source (hot with key on, not hot with key off) then you shouldn't need a relay.
Unless the issue is that the stock ignition source is not capable of providing the amperage necessary to operate the alt. Then I could see the need for the relay.

That makes perfect sense now.I believe he was using an open spot on the fuse panel but believe it or not the voltage varies too much at the fuse panel.Which will cause the alt voltage to jump all over the place.That what I did, I hooked mine up to the fuse panel Ignition source and if you use the windows,A/C,Defrosters or anything that uses power from the fuse panel it start jumping voltage and won't level out.
