External HD or iPOD with X890

Understand that through the USB, I do not believe you can use the ipods menu on the deck itself. I have no experience though.

As for external drives, make sure to be able to find a power source for a hard disk drive. I'd suggest a cord that has the power supply the disk needs, and can plug into the cigarrette lighter.

A note to consider is the limitations of the current software. I believe the deck itself will only load up to 15,000 songs via external hard drive, and on average that has been tested to be roughly 16 gigs of music. So in essence, the only reason to get a 120 GB HD or more, is for future developement in deck technology allowing for loading entire hard drives. Personally, I only use 4 gigs with my current music, so I'd be fine.

I'd go with the iPod. I have the x790 and while the interface isn't that great, it's simple and quite quick. Just push up or down to change artists and to either side to change tracks.

You are changing artists from the faceplate or the iPOD unit? Are you suffering in loss in quality with the sound? Is it compressed or CD quality??

i have the 890 and the ipod...im able to use the ipods menu with it simply hooked up to the usb....and i dont have the kenwood ipod adapter interface...the ipod alone with the usb works great for me

Nice, I didn't know that. Makes me want the 590 even more now.

I use the iPod interface thru the CD player itself and prefer it that way. Before I got the adapter, I had it set up where I used the iPod but using the interface on the CD player is so much easier and simpler.

If you rip or download your MP3s in lossless form, you won't lose sound quality but that takes up a lot of room. It will sound just like a MP3 CD when using the iPod interface.
