1. 2009 SLK55 hardtop convertible (read VERY little trunk space)

2. Big 3

3. 5cu custom sealed fiberglass box which literally takes up my ENTIRE trunk

4. RE 15" XXX

5. Cadence IA9

Install won't be done for another few days, what can I honestly expect?

Linh

we did several mockups, comes up to 5cubes. Did I pick the wrong driver? Do I need something like 10cubes sealed for a 15 XXX? If so, I can go with an AA or Fi driver if necessary and use the XXX for a HT project?

10cubes sealed for a 15 is enormous. I'm curious what they told you about this sub?; the typical size for a sealed 15 is more on the order of 2-2.75 cubes

would love to see pics of the car

Shop isn't done yet, but I'll take some pics tomorrow of what they've done so far..... They ran out of fiberglass and dynomat last time I checked on Friday. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif.......

If the 15 XXX doesn't work out in my car, I'm planning on something like this

Check out the sweeps down to 5hz, pretty insane what you can do with unlimited space...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif:eek:

I come from HT, where they routinely put XXX into 25cube enclosures //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif:eek:

Due to limitations, I had to take out the spare tire and still could only come up with 5 cubes. This is with literally every inch of the trunk being used.

OK due to work and such, finally able to pick up car today from shop. Conservative estimates have the sealed enclosure at ~5.1cubes including internal braces and driver displacement. Haven't played any music, just sweeps. From 20-60hz sounds good, anything higher sounds pretty bad. Anything under 20hz barely moves the cone. My only previous sub was 2 12" phoenix gold RSDC with RSD1200.1. Initial impressions are the 15" XXX sounds way better down low and digs deeper, but the 2 12" RSDCs actually sound better everywhere else.

i see some problems .like if you play with the top down your going to beat the top to hell
totally agree. this is a third car, I drive it like maybe once a month, hopefully nothing bad happens. Just spent last 30mins playing some more test tones and some music, I think this driver is better suited in a MUCH bigger enclosure in a home theatre environment where the subsonic frequencies excel. Probably replace the driver with something more suited for music and use the XXX in a HT project. Found some bigger pics of the car for those who asked

I'm probably twice as old as the average forum member (high school class of 1988), I guess midlife crisis or something got over me and next thing I know I got a big *** sub in a mercedes with no room left for golf bags //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif
