What is this expanding foam stuff everybody keeps saying to use and how does it help with sound deadening? And is there a certain brand to look at, If somebody could please post a link I would really appreciate that it. Sorry im prettty new to deadening, havent researched much about it. Thanks for the help guys

Soft cavities like carbon fiber hood cavities, you should use low pressure expanding foam vs the high pressure. Using high pressure will cause the hood cavity to warp because it has a higher expansion tolerance that it's low pressure cousin. Expanding foam can be purchased in 5 gal and small spray can. The property you are after for sound deadening is how good it sticks to the surface and how densely you can fill a cavity without trapping air.

can you post a link to some? I really dont know what to get lol. And alright I gotcha. Thanks man
"great stuff" is the product, lowes, Walmart, home depot all sell it. i use it anywhere there would be panel flex where they'd smash into each other, for example, the trunk lid. between the inner and utter layers of the trunk so they don't smack together.

thanks man that helped a lot!

one thing i thought of (or heard lol) and im doing it now is cutting up strong garbage bags and spraying the foam into the bag. you can remove it fairly easy and it doesn't leave nasy foam everywhere. working so far for me.

We used to get that stuff in big tanks, the size of BBQ grill propane tanks, and used it to fill car doors completely to create makeshift armor cars. It would stop 5.56/ 7.62X39 at 50 meters. Probably not your goal, but you never know.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/violent.gif.ccf64f7a34b20886d220db2fbff36f3b.gif

If you do not want the foam to adhere to a specific surface just mask it off and add mold release wax, not much control on overspray. Just dabb the areas you don't want it to stick and clean up would be easier. Use acetone while it's still in gooey stage to clean up nicely.

would not use that crap unless sealing off a wall. It can dampen out some road noise but they're are better and much less messy products out there...
can you list some and where to get it? i've been sick of using "great stuff" its structural integrity is pretty weak and its a sticky mess most of the times.
