I'm looking for someone who may have experience working on conversion vans, in this case an '01 Ford Regency conversion...
The van has 6 factory speakers: 2 in the front doors, 2 middle (one in the side door, one below the other side window), and 2 in the rear doors.
It also had a factory head unit (just replaced) and another Regency-added head unit (Kenwood) mounted in the wall by one of the middle seats; this unit plays through speaker jacks. In addition to the stereos, there was a TV that had "expired" and was removed.
The main head unit only plays through the front door speakers; I thought it might have been a fault with the factory unit, but when I replaced it, it was not fixed. The harness in the dash still has the rear speaker wires in it, so I know it was wired before the van went to Regency for the conversion...
I was tinkering with the rear Kenwood unit, and discovered that if I turned it all the way up, it would play through the 4 rear speakers, albeit very quietly... this suggested to me that maybe they were wired to that stereo, so I replaced it with another unit that I had, but with the same result. Both units still play fine through the headphones.
So, prior to the conversion, the factory system was probably in-tact, but the rear speakers were likely disconnected... somewhere... and re-routed either to the TV, and/or the rear stereo... I just have no clue where to look for that cut or connector, and of course there are lots of 3rd-party panels, carpet, etc that I don't have any manuals for.
Regency, of course, has since gone out of business. I'm hoping to find someone who has worked on conversion vans before that might be able to shed some light on the problem...
