I am now just starting to play with the EQ today. Does anyone know of any good guides/tutorials on adjusting EQ's? Or if someone can point me to the right direction. First let me explain my current setup.
Front-stage: UR36i 3-way passive, x-over points (450Hz / 5.5kHz)non-variable
Arc 4050xxk pushing 180wrms x 2 to front-stage
Sub-stage: 11Ov.2
Profile pushing 200wrms to sub-stage
HU: Kenwood x889.
For tuning I eliminated some variables; substage is off, no other features turned on, everything is basically flat as my starting point. Now my HU is capable of the following EQ settings:
4-band parametric EQ
Selectable Q factor of .25/.50/1.00/2.00 (going from wide to acute curve)
Band 1 60/ 80/ 100/ 120/ 160/ 200 (Hz)
Band 2 250/ 315/ 400/ 500/ 630/ 800 (Hz)/ 1 kHz
Band 3 1.25/ 1.6/ 2/ 2.5/ 3.15/ 4 (kHz)
Band 4 5/ 6.3/ 8/ 10/ 12.5/ 16 (kHz)
-9 to +9dB of 1dB increments on each band
Now I plan to attack this by going band by band, focusing first on mid-bass, then mid-range, and finally tweeter. I was playing around with the mid-bass EQ and I found +4dB @ 160Hz with a .25 Q seems to bring the mid-bass alive, really alive. I don't want to mess with the mid-range/tweet just yet.
If I am going in the wrong direction please let me know. Any advice is greatly appreciated as always.
