EQ Settings question?

Is there any specific frequency on the EQ band that primarily controls the vocals?

Sometimes my settings will be right on center, and then on some certain rock music tracks, everything is much more pronounced except for the vocals.

I'm not denying that that's not right but it seems like that might be off. When I used to record live conferences and whatnot, I'd EQ in that range for vocals but on a stereo system it seems like vocals start around 250hz-300hz and go up to about 2500hz w/ female vocals. Just something I've found interesting.

Some "S" goes up to 8k too. Human voice got a wide range.
