Epicentre's?

You don't like your Epicenter? My system wouldn't be the same without it. I think its the best component to signal proccessing I've added to a system. That is until I get the DEQ-230. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wacky.gif.cf4a48f9e6dfe9504ffd2c946fd2f340.gif

diplexers... the only reason i don't know if i like it or not is that i haven't heard my same setup without it... but i don't really know wut it does... isn't it just a way for a headunit with only 1 or 2 pairs of preouts to be able to control sub level? Cuz I don't need that option cuz i've got 3 prs. of preouts on my deck (the 3rd being a sub output)but i mean it's dope if does something...

by the way, what does it do when the expansion is off? still causes a better signal?

When I don't have the Expansion on... i can obviously see what happens when i turn on the expansion.

Or is the expansion the whole point to the epicentre... this thing boggles me

I have an epicenter in my setup and it def adds something. But I have one of the first models to ever come out so...things are different today. The expansion is why the epicenter cost so much it basically an analog sound processor that picks out certain frequencys and extends them and can even color them out to other frequencys .

With expansion off its basically an expensive line driver.

Well said.

The Epicenter is a fun little toy... as long as you understand that's what it is.

It works just like an octave pedal, if you are a musician...

It simply uses certain frequencies, to clone them and mathematically divide them in half (creating notes exactly one octave lower), and blends them back into the music in real-time, at a level that you control with the little knob.

I believe it uses frequencies in the 50hz-160hz range, to create "fake bass" in the 25-80hz range.

That's essentially all the classic Epicenter did.

The Epic-150 came out, and it was a dash-mount unit (bummer), but it included a 150dB decibel meter (cool) and a built in voltage display (cool).

Then, they revamped it again, and turned it into the Epic-160, by upping the meter to a 160dB decibel meter.

It's certainly no sound quality device, and it won't make your bass louder...

But what it can do is take music that otherwise doesn't have any bass, and make it boom-worthy...

Which can be cool, or funny, depending on whether you are spicing up otherwise thin rap music, or decided to turn on the local country music channel... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Very well said and accuratley informed.

hmm this thread makes me have a few questions...

I have a Brand new Epi-center, still in box, never hooked up... Its the trunk mount kind, but not super old.. Maybe a year or two at most....

1. Should I go ahead and use it? with my 6 Sub amps and 6 Subs or sell it to someone???

2. How the Fock would I hook it up?

From the head units Sub out to the EPI unit, then to a Left and Right Y adapters with like 6 pairs of Ys comming off that inputted to each amp?

I wana make d@mn sure all 6 Amps get the same input levels...

Audio control has a 6 or 8 channel (can't remember how many) output line driver you could use. They do recommend you install it right off the deck, before any EQ's or any other signal proccessors.
