My Miserable Day of Installation

Well, I received my Alpine SPX 177A Components today. So I rip open the box, and admire the beauty of the basket of the midrange, well anyway, I take my door panel off and find that the midrange doesn't fit the current mounting bracket i have in there, and of course the guy I bought it from didn't send ones for that speaker. So i say screw it after dremeling the hell out of my door and just try and get the tweeters for right now. So the hole is bigger than what i had for my infinity's so i dremel that a bit and i get it to fit. Well while soldering the wire onto the tweet I slipped, dropped the tweeter and melted the whole ****ing connector off. So seeing as something had to go my way, the wire to the voice coil was still atlesat sticking out a little bit, so I soldered it back without too much trouble( just had to use my mouth to hold the solder //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif ). Well i get the tweeter in, and it sounds like absolute shit. Really no detail, and its still just as harsh or more than my infinitys which were pretty bad. I cannot describe to you my mood right now. Ah had to vent. Feel free to laugh haha.

dang, that sucks. sorry, bro. somedays, it seems as if it's not worth gettin' out of bed. maybe your tweets will sound better after you've taken a break, and come back to them.

if it makes you feel any better (and it should), i just spent another few hours installing some of my kit. i've done almost everything with tips i've received, and posts i've read on here, a lot of them yours. i suppose it helps that our cars are only a year apart, but i just thought i'd let you know that some of your posts and advice have really helped me out.

today, i ran the power wire from the engine compartment, under my door sills, and into my trunk. i then attached my amp. everything went beautifully, and my '97 civic still looks 100% stock, except for the amp.

anyway, you can take solice in knowing that some of your level-headed responses have helped someone else out with their install. thanks. oh, and keep that solder outta yer mouth!!!

abe m.

Ive had those days. If it makes you feel any better, two months after i started at my current job, i accidently drilled through a brake master cylinder on an 03 Eclipse while drilling for power wire..Bad day.

When I first started in car audio, 2 months on the job and I drilled into a gas tank.

Good thing Im more the mechanic.. so I dropped the tank, threw a screw into it and JB Weld'd the screw and tank.

Never leaked again.

Ha! I'm only laughing because I have the same components and I hate them. Tweeters are very harsh. Actually, for some ideas, you should go back and read my thread, I Hate My System. People gave some good suggestions in there, only the weather is so cold here that I really haven't been able to do much with my car. Here's the link to my thread:

Thanks, i'm gonna go rip apart my door again to get to the x-over and see if that'l help.

Edit: screwed with x-over, helped a little bit, but still sounds really freaking bad. It is robbery for Alpine to want 500 bucks for these peices of shit. My infintiy reference's sounded 4000 times better than this. These tweets aren't clear what soever but are still very harsh. Atleast the infinitys were clear. Ugh, the midranges are decent, but gigantic and required me cutting apart my entire door. The mounting system for the tweeters is absolutely rediculously retarded, illogical, and hard to do. I also had to cut holes bigger in my doors for the tweets, so i can't even go back to the infintiys and sell these peices of crap. Die alpine speakers.
