i'm planning on running 3 15 inch JL audio w0s. the guy at the audio store is trying to sell me a JL audio 500.1 v2 amp and i'm kind of doubtful that it will push enough power to my 3 15s. he says that the subs will get about 450 rms each..which also raises a doubt in my mind. would a 500.1 be enough for my 3 15s? if not, what amp should i look at? i'm trying to stay away from jl due to the price, but i like memphis but am unsure which amp would suit me best. any input would be appreciated. thanks!

How would an amp that pushes 500rms, push 450rms x3?

Sounds like the dude is an idiot....

Why not do less higher end subs, do 2 good 15's or even 2 good 12's....

that's what made me question it.. i'm not entirely sure how the power divides when you run multiple subs off one amps, but it was once described to me as a light bulb process where light bulbs get a tad dimmer every time another light bulb is run off the same power supply, but never dims dramatically.

i'm considering dropping to two of the w0 15s, but at $150 a piece, it's really not a bad deal for 2 subs that will 1. last forever 2. sound great and 3. be american made.

What ohm load are those W0's? I wouldn't buy JL new but for the price you can get the W0's and W3's for used, they're pretty decent. If you get three single 4ohm woofers then you're looking at a 1.33ohm load. A soundstream DTR1400.1 will work well with those three subs, and definitely not break the bank.

The guy who told you each sub would get 400+ watts with that 500/1 is a moron, he's just trying to sell you something expensive.

Personally i would never run JL because i have never ever heard a good JL Setup that impressed me, i have just seen overpriced equipment that people treat like god.....

Like Ram said, Post a budget and we'll find you something that will surprise you....

With 700, you can go pretty big...

4 12" Type R's D4's- around $400

AP3k- around $300....

Then build your own box....bout 7.5-9 cubes ported...

Do the Big 3 and get an extra battery or two, be insane lol

Be a little over budget prolly lol

Could do 2 12's & one of the many 1500rms amps,

Subs around $200-300, Amp around $150-250, Then build a box...

in reality, the cheapest i've found 12 inch type r's is for 120-130, which leaves me 200 for an amp, and unless i go used that really wont work out too well. i do like type r's but they're not the longest lasting sub, especially when you're wanging daily..

hopefully i'll be coming into an 05 jeep grand cherokee, but if that falls through then an 02 yukon.
Well you have a lot of room either way. I'd go with a solid 18" sub and run 1000-1500 watts to it. Something like the Mach 5 IXL or Fi SSD would be good options. Then for a good budget amp you can run the Soundstream DTR1400.1.

Soundstream DTR1.1400D Mono 1400 Watt Amplifier New! - eBay (item 180447018313 end time Jan-12-11 15:31:34 PST)

If you want to do something different, six of these off the more powerful version DTR would be cool. At only $55 a pop when buying 4 or more, can't really beat these subs.

Idk where you heard that....

Any sub will last if it isn't overpowered, I bump my Type R's everyday and get no problems from them....

If you look for deals you can get big stuff real cheap....

Here's an example of a $500 dollar budget build, keep in mind that you have $200 more of a budget: http://www.caraudio.com/forums/car-audio-build-logs-cars-trucks-suvs/472361-%24500-dollar-4-15s-build.html

i want quality though, i could go to a pawn shop, buy 4 15s, rig up a box, and a cheap amp..but for what? to have a mediocre sounding system? i'd rather shell out a little more and have some real quality in the back..

That system is hitting 150's daily, i see no where near a mediocre sounding system....

You don't want quality you just want to spent a whole crap load of money on equipment like JL that will actually be the mediocre system...

It's not always about equipment, its mostly a box and install that makes a system good or bad...
