enough power?

Please go to http://www.bcae1.com and learn something before telling people what you think is right.
Phase has nothing to do with brand or type of sub. Phase is the timing of the power that is being sent to the sub, to put it simply. Subwoofers move in and out. When using a single amp, no matter what sub it is, as long as they are hooked up the same, they will move in and out at the same time. That means they are in phase. I'm not saying it will sound good, because mixing brands is likely to sound like poo. Distortion, yes. Out of phase, no.
They may be wired in phase but the sound waves they produce will not be in phase.

The sound waves will be in phase, identical no, but certainly they will be in phase. There is the possibility of some added distortion because they are not identical.

When 2 or more speakers are in phase there is no added distortion. they are moving together as 1. This can only be done by using identical subs.

I understand what you mean but your terminology is off.

phase n.

5. Physics

a. A particular stage in a periodic process or phenomenon.

b. The fraction of a complete cycle elapsed as measured from a specified reference point and often expressed as an angle.

Besides, two of the same speaker can and will also interfere with each other. This is why positioning can be a large factor. When the same signal is produced from two separate points an interference pattern develops. This is especially important in home theaters. When using two different model subs you will likely have this plus additional distortion due to them not firing in exactly the same way.

what are you smoking indosia? you really make absolutely no sense and trying to sound like you know anything on the related topic..

stop talking please.

and you are very wrong. two speakers move in phase, it only means they are getting the same signal. dont have to be identical subs. please. http://www.bcae1.com

the problem with different subs is different power handlings, different impedances, different sound altogether. in this case, one sub will be getting twice as much power as the other.

anyways, dont do it, dont listen to indosia. he really has absolutely no idea what he is talking about and he obviously didnt get a 4 on his AP Physics exam in highschool, nor take physics in college. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/naughty.gif.94359f346c0f1259df8038d60b41863e.gif

Thank you! I was afraid people would start believing him...

I believe he is simply confused between absolute phase and relative phase. Absolute phase being both speakers are moving the same way at the same time. But relative phase is how you hear the sound waves. So your position and the position of the speakers, and any reflections, affects relative phase. But since subwoofers are most often placed right next to eachother, you don't have to worry about the relative phase since they are close enough to a single source.

Your right, I don't know anyhting about running mismatched subs. Thanks for the info on how to make a system sound like shit.
We also told him to keep the subs all the same brand and run them in phase, if he wanted good sound. Just like you told him.

You just went a step farther and displayed your ignorance.

In fact, I don't even know where the whole phase thing started. Oh ,wait, you brought it up.
