Engine Noise/Hiss

Alright,

So I've recently installed two amplifiers in my vehicle. I've got a Pioneer Premier DEH500 Head Unit, which comes equipped with 3 2.2v preouts. Once I introduced my Orion 4 Channel amplifier I've got crazy engine noise and constant hiss coming from the amped speakers. I've tried multiple ground points for both amplifiers with no success. I've even tried grounding the HU to the same spot the amps are grounded in the truck, no luck. I've tried using different rca cables to connect the amp to the hu, no luck. However, I've narrowed it down to the REAR PREOUT causing the noise and hiss. As soon as I make contact with the negative side of the RCA the hiss is very audible. When I remove the RCA, only the rear the noise is totally gone. Now, the only difference with this specific preout and the others is that it comes out of the deck with a wire as opposed to being directly on the rear face of the deck.

Any ideas?

Just to add,

I have my power cable running on the opposite side of the car. The 3 sets of rcas run on the same side, could this pose a problem? Either way, no matter what wire, what speakers the REAR RCA connection is causing the noises. What could be the problem?

engine noise/ hiss

one or more of the screws you are using to mount the amp to the car

metal/chasis maybe causing a ground loop mounting your amp to a peice

of board may break the loop

TRY THIS

cut a piece of 3/4''particle board a little larger then your amp, and mount it to the

chasis/metal of your car where your orion amp is one screw per corner then mount your amp to the wood using screws haft the depth of your board (so the screw does not go through the metal of your car) make sure the screws of the board that you mounted to the car chasis/metal is not touching the amp bottom

in anyway if it does it will creat a ground loop.

then use the (chasis/metal) area where you have your amp grounded to now

just clean the metal of all paint/primmer so you will have bare metal

to ground your amp too

The amps aren't even mounted yet because I've just installed the amps. However, currently they are sitting on carpet which has wood underneath it, to cover the spare tire space. So, as for the amps touching any part of the car/metal is not really possible. As for the ground point being painted/dirty, I sanded it down to pure metal already.

I'm curious to know if its possible that the rca contact coming out of the deck might be defective? Improperly shielded? Cold solder?

is your other amp noise free if yes

try placing problem rca into your other amp to see if other amp

has noise/hiss. if it does then

do you or your friend have another head unit you could try with rca preouts

to see if there is a problem with your head unit preout

are you using any type of electronic eq, line driver, crossover etc

if so, try removing them and run your rca from your headunit to your amp.

The RCA's go directly into the 4 channel amp. The other amp is noise free. I got a couple different noise suppressors / ground loop isolators from a friend so I'm going to test them out today. Either way, I feel as though bandaiding the situation isn't right!

I will however test with another source head unit, I've had to do this in previous installations.

**** noise.

Added two Ground Loop Isolators/Noise Suppressors and the noise is almost TOTALLY gone. I stuck one on each input on the 4 channel amp (front/rear). I can hear a very minimal alternator whine when volume is at 0. Only audible at at very low speeds.

Good enough for me.

Do you think it makes a difference in which way the GLI are plugged into the rca cable? Meaning, female end to HU or to AMP/RCA.
