so ive got a single 12" type r 4 ohm dvc im going to be running with a 1600 watt peak hifonics amp.... i think i might start out with a sealed enclosure for now and go ported later on.... but for a sealed enclosure how many cubes should i have to make it the loudest and best sounding possible?

hello, welcome to the forum. This is probably the single most discussed subwoofer here, and there is tons of information. Search the subwoofer section or enclosure section for more info. Good luck!

ya i was gunna do sealed for now then when i get some more money to get some body to make a custom ported im going ported at 33hz i think how much of a difference is SQ and SPL will that b

Well with a box around 1-1.3cf and adequate power, you won't have any problem with getting decent SQ out of it.

But if you were to port it, You'd be able to get outstanding SQ and SPL compared to the sealed. The low end of that sub really comes to life when its ported.

true hmm ok then ported how much space do i need? and my problem is idk if i can find ne 1 around me to make a good custom ported box.... well one guy is in iowa for god know how long but he just put 4 12" cvrs in the back seat of a cobalt>!>! a lil overkill for a cobalt if u ask me but ya he the only 1 i know with like experience in this stuff and hes gone....

The ported box size depends on the type of sound you want. The net size of the box and the port volume will determine the output and curve.

Me personally for a single R at 33hz, I would use 2 cu ft.

You don't have to rush for that ported box man, the sealed box will do you plenty of justice while you wait. But when you get the ported, you'll thank yourself for sure.

haha ok so itll b that big of a difference between ported and sealed? oh and its probly gunna b ran by a BXi1608D 1100 rms at 2 ohms =) hopefully thatll b nice and loud haha

Where in Apopka are you because I know of a few shops that do good work for a decent price. And yes from experience go ported, I have a single 10" type-r and it's night and day between ported and sealed.
