Enclosure For Diamond Audio D612D4 12" Subs - Need Advice

I have two Diamond Audio D612D4 12" subs. They'll be powered by a Kicker KX1200.1 @ 1 ohm.

The recommended specs call for a sealed enclosure of 0.875 cubic ft. or a vented enclosure of 1.25 cubic ft. I've read that these are pretty good SQ subs. I'm looking for good SQ and good SPL. What do you guys recommend for my enclosure? Should I go with the ported box for better SPL? If so, at what frequency should I have the box tuned?

I listen mostly to hard rock and classic rock, but also a little rap. I like hard-hitting punch bass the most, but also enjoy the deep, booming bass as well.

Thanks for the link, but I plan to have a local car audio shop build my box. I want my amps mounted flush around the box, so it's best for me to have them build it for me.

Anyone else? Should I use a vented box? What size? What frequency?

Excelerater,

What type of music do you listen to? Are you getting hard-hitting punch bass, low booming bass, or a nice mixture of both? How many watts RMS are you giving your subs? I don't know the specs on your D1500.1.

Wouldn't I get more SPL from the vented enclosure?

By the way, these subs are going in a Toyota 4-Runner.

Should I fire the subs up or forward? I'd like to fire them forward so my amps can be mounted on top and on the back. Does it make much of a difference? The box will be pretty close to the back seat, so the subs would only be about 6" from the back of the seat if facing forward.

I run 2 sealed,strickly SQ in my truck,the amp pushes 1800+ watts - more than enough for 2 D6s

my subs fire down, but next time around im going foward firing and ported TDXs

my other car has a ported sub,its boomier but more fun IMO and usues way less watts to get just as loud - ported is allways alot louder

if your in Memphis you can demo mine

At what frequency should I have them tune my box? I've read alot of messages from people who have tuned to 34hz. That seems to be a popular frequency to tune a box.

I cant really say what to tune it to other than MFG reccomended specs

34 is poular,my own ported box I use on occasion is tuned to 26

my other is 34 - I dont hear a whole big of a difference

Okay, thanks.

I asked about the SSF on my amp in the amplifier section and it may have an impact as to how I tune my box. Not sure yet. It's locked in at 25hz.
