I've finally gotten rid of my truck and now have a car. Therefore, I'm going to step down in size so I have some room left in my trunk. It's currently in a 2.5 cube box tuned to 32hz. I'm thinking I'm going to put it in a sealed box and get some SQ out of it. I'm not too concerned about it getting deafening loud but want it to sound good with my factory Boston Acoustics speakers and Eclipse HU. Fi recommends .8-1.5 cubes for airspace. Is there going to be much difference between the two? I want some really low lows.....and btw, I've got a Diamond D5 1200.1 on it.

I think I might just go with a sealed box for better SQ. The only thing keeping from it, is the fact that it will be in the trunk of my car, as I'm used to having it in the back of an suv.

I've had a 15" FI Q in both a sealed (2.5ft^3), and ported (4ft^3 tuned to 32hz) box.

Their will be an sq difference, but it is very slight compared to the difference in output. If you're looking for something to blend with the front speakers, then be all means choose the sealed box, since you'll gain more space in the back and 1200w is more then enough, even in a sealed box, to overpower the output of the stock speakers.

I'm definitely wanting the sub to blend in with the stock Boston Acoustics system. Although it is stock, it gets pretty loud and sounds good doing it. I was just concerned that putting it in a sealed box and in a trunk that it would be a world of difference from having it in a ported box and in an SUV.

There's a pretty significant difference in output going from the sealed box i used to the ported enclosure, and that was in the same vehicle, the only thing changing being the box.

Do your seats fold down? My first setup was a 12" Infinity Perfect DVQ in a sealed enclosure in the trunk of a 93 nissan sentra. when i moved that to my suv i noticed a slight increase in output, as well as a less muffled sound from when it was in the sedan. My seats in the nissan didn't fold and i still had speakers mounted in the back, so i know it was probably due to not being able to sufficiently get the sound to escape into the cabin from the trunk. I'm pretty sure its very car dependant.

a low tuned ported box will be just as musical as a sealed enclosure. the only issues are how low should you go?, and how large does the box have to be to get the sound you want.

and yes, you will hear a difference between ported in an suv and sealed in a trunk.
