where did you guys get the idea that a sub would sound bad in a ported enclosure? the only time it'll sound bad is if the box is built right. ask ben if you want, the k-series sounds great in a ported box (providing you don't tune TOO high).

EDIT: posted at the same time as ben:p

I'd say most people who say they sound like crap in a ported enclosure either 1. have them tuned obscenely high. 2. have never used them. 3. have them incorrectly set up (as far as wrong box, wrong xover settings and so on).

Ask Loyd what he has in his car that he's never had before. SQ. With ported K's //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I see you have some simple box measurements on the edesigns website. If I bought four of your 15" K series what would be the best frequency to tune them at for a good mix of SPL and SQ?

I like ported enclosures for their output on electronic and rap music, however, I listen to a lot of rock, and I like the nice thump that sealed provides. I'm looking for the best of both worlds. (So I am guessing a ported enclosure tuned very low would provide me with good results, IF the speaker is up to it) //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

I'm probably not going to be a hardcore SPL competitor or anything, traveling and such, but I would like to hit some local competitions just to give it a try.

Also, do you think a 1400 watt MMats amp, DHC1400.1 would be good on four 15" k's for the purpose I am describing?

I'm pretty sold on Edesign's speakers, I'm just trying to get all the info I can since I can't actually listen to them before buying. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Just one L in Loyd. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif But yeah, 3.5 cuft tuned to 36 hz does well for SQL situations.

i got one of the k's that had the weak spider i guess but it sounded awesome until that let go. had an e12k running off a jbl 600.1 in a 2.0 cu ft box tuned to 30 hz. i'd definetly recommend them (great sub for the price)

I've got about 40ft. ^ 3, maybe I should do 6! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

that amp will supply them with plentyof power. I'd tune it a tad lower though around 28hz though, but that's just me //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

hey kaos, i built a ported box for 2 12" K's that i'm planning on getting. It is already built, separate chambers 2.45ft^3 each tuned to 34.1hz

will that work well w/ the k's?? will it sound good?? i planned this w/ a 60/40 SQ/SPL in mind.

or.....would i be better not buying the K's and sticking my mtx 6000's in there, what would you recommend

thanx

K's will most likely get a good deal louder and sound a lot better than the 6000's in my experience, with your tastes I probably would have tuned it a little lower but it will still work quite well, I'd consider lowering the tuning regardless of what driver you put in there.

Originally posted by ngsm13 how would i lower it, could i just make the port longer?
basically one good way of doing it. You also can for sake of not ripping the box up, stock polyfil in the port, this effictivly slows air travel and will lower tuning slightly. Can't just stick a handful in there, stick a healthy amount in there, enough so it won't shift during high excursion.

Originally posted by Ralphus Also, I've seen the guy with four of them (Lloyd) says to put them in sealed as well, not only because they work better in sealed, but that they don't sound good ported. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif
I've never said anything like that.. what are you talking about?
