Just wanted to see some peoples input on this. Went to a sound off yesterday and my Elemental Designs eK15 performed pretty well. Have it in a 2.8 sealed enclosure only getting an estimated 4-500 Watts using only one channel (2-ohms) on a Kicker KX450.2. Yet I somehow managed to hit 136 DB as my highest run. Stock electrical, no big 3. Box design is off by .3 cubes est and it's def not tuned at the right frequency. Nonetheless, still managed to hit 136.
So these are my choices:
Now, regardless I'm upgrading my electrical to the following.
~Red Top Optima starter
~Kinentik HC1800 secondary
~0/1 Gauge wiring throughout
Now I can either run the eK15 at 2-Ohms and give it 1700Watts of clean power. If I'm doing this, I want to get an enclosure built for it. Tuned to the resonant frequency of my car, and it's going to be made out of HDF or Birch. However, my concerns are; Can the eK15 even handle 1700 Watts? Chances are it might even be pushing more than that. I don't want to go through all the trouble of having a box built and then blow the eK15 away because I love that sub.
So that being said, lets move on to the second choice. Run the 2500D on the 15" Goliath XX 3215 @ 1 ohm getting 2500W, maybe more in a 3.5 cube ported box that I already have. However, I do know that the Orion is a power hog, especially if I'm going to be running it at 1 ohm. In spite of this, do you think the upgraded electrical will suffice even if I don't have an HO alternator?
CLIFF NOTES: eK15 in custom enclosure, Orion 2500D @ 2 ohms 1700WATTS or 3215 Goliath in 3.5 cube enclosure, Orion 2500D @ 1 ohm around 2500WATTS?
