Hey I just got 2 Kicker 15" 2000w each

so 4000w power from a 5500w amp

and i was really curious to find out if this kind of power would decrease the fuel efficiency of the car?

i have an amp alternator.. yellow top battery .. and big 3 wiring.. but this question kept poppin up in my head

appreciate any answers..thanks

not enough for you to notice, only thing it will effect is weight i'm guessing

Added stress on the engine, added weight is no joke especially when alot of these systems weigh a good 100lbs or more easily

If you're watching your gas mileage, yes there will be a few mpg difference most likely, but chances are running your air conditioning all the time would have a bigger impact than that (to put it in perspective)

I've never had a huge system by the standards of this forum and I've yet to come in under the 100lb mark. 100lbs isn't going to make much of a difference. That's like a skinny chick in the passenger seat. A pair of 15, the box for them and the amp to power them is going to be more than likely well in excess of 200lbs. That's a fat chick riding shotgun and no one wants that.

The weight increase isn't that big a deal on the highway at a constant speed, but around town where you're stopping and starting a lot, it can kill your gas mileage. Of course if you drive like a dickhead to begin with, you won't notice the difference anyway.

what amp puts out 5500 im kinda curious
a Power Acoustik BAMF 5500w

The two things that will have an effect are the extra weight and the added load on the engine from the alternator having to work a little harder. Of the two, the weight will be the biggest effect.
my system probably weighs around 140lbs .. based on the weight specs i read up on different sites

also.. if i change the alternator in my car to a 140w amp alternator.. you think that will take some load off the engine?

i gained 50 miles per TANK when I took my system out... and thatw as just 2 15" Type R's with 1 amp.... some of you guys are losing a TON more than you think
****n no way.. but your alpine's weigh around 44lbs each.. my kickers are 30lbs..

don't know if that makes much of a difference.. but its crazy how u gained 50 miles per tank..
