Maybe he did. I'm not trying to defend him. I've never met him and can't vouch for what kind of person he is. But think of how a lot of foreign companies work. eD designs and orders custom tooled parts. A month later TB goes out looking for prestamped parts and happens to find the same company that is custom tooling eD parts. And there you have it. Foreign company with no business ethics sell a custom eD designed part to another company. And eD can't really do anything about it until the patent is approved. They have to **** it up and just compete on the open market. Like Ben stated they would. But I could be wrong.

I understand what you're saying, but don't think it's the case since from what I understand TangBand does just about everything in-house, and eD is claiming that they had this custom-tooled for themselves and are having it built in house as well, or something to that effect.

Has anyone considered the fact that both eD and TB could be purchasing stamped baskets, cones, and surrounds from the same company? I understand Ben is claiming that the idea for this driver came from a lunch meeting he had but it is possible that both companies simply buy premade parts from whereever.
Example: My HO alt from DB Electrical came in the exact same casing as my stock alt. Not because they copied the design but because they purchase casings from whatever company makes them for Pontiac. Just because the two are using what appears to be the same product in many ways doesn't mean that one stole it from someone else and both have every right to patent something that is theres. It's like Dr. Pepper, Dr. Topper, and Mr. Pibb. Same thing, all patented, different label. But some are cheaper than others, some are considered better than others.

I guess you missed earlier posts. Tang Band makes all their own stuff. Baskets, surrounds, spiders, everything. Tang Band is their own buildhouse.

The only way that Ben could have gotten those parts to make an exact replica is to get them from Tang Band. Herein lies the problem. Ben claims that he designed and built this woofer, when it is fairly obvious that he didn't. Ben claims that his woofer is a better performer, which it isn't, its the same sub. Ben claims that he has a better warranty, which we all know is a sketchy statement at best because of previous incidents.

To sum it up, from what I can tell, Ben had Tang Band make him a sub that he planned on releasing but never did. Tang Band then released their version of it before Ben. Ben then claims that he designed the sub first and then Tang Band stole the design.

What a surprise that yet another thread on caraudio.com has been routed in to a full on ED hate fest.

You won't find objectivity on icix, but you won't find it here, either. Asking about ED on this forum is about like asking the Nazis how they liked the Jews. You're looking at around the same level of bias/misinformation.

Some of the things people say about ED are true, but a fair chunk of that is mixed with idle speculation, fantasy, and sheer stupidity. The anti-ed crowd has some two digit IQ all stars amongst their ranks, and you've seen several of them in the thread.

I have always maintained that some people have very legitimate gripes with ED, and others have little more than a hardon for bandwagons. Again, this is nothing new.

With regard to the tangband, it looks to be very nearly the same driver as the ED. Identical? That I won't say, as without having the exact parts laid out, it's rather foolish to make such an assumption, even though at the very least the two drivers are extremely similar.

I find it unlikely that TB is involved with "stealing" or "copying" any designs from ED. I think it is likely that TB built a proto for ED, that much I think can be granted without much speculation being required. No one knows what agreements they may or may not have had together, so I think speculating about it is rather pointless.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Ben is claiming he has everything custom-tooled and built exclusively for him, for this speaker.
Wouldn't shock me if he was lying about that...

He probably did, but that story is bent.

He is probably using Tangband's buildhouse for these, He liked TB's prototype and had TB make him one, He decided to havea production run of it, started a preorder, and about that time TB was finished with their version's production run. Now Ben is slanding the Brand of his buildhouse to make his run sound better. He has probably already bought a production run with mommy's money but after TB finds out they will cut him off. I dont expect Ben's version to for very long because TB will refuse to make them for him after slanding the company.

That is speculated but 'tis my theory untill someone can defenetively prove it otherwise.

Just for reference here is Ben claiming that he can build everything he sells in house. Amusing, in that same thread he is claiming that he did not steal another persons design out of spite and also there are pics of his "buildhouse" (aka WEARHOUSE!).

And another thread for reference, this is the one denim forgot (here). This is the one that turned me away from ed forever. I don't care if he steals the plans for a Ferrari and is selling the for $5 bucks a pop. I can never do business with this guy. He openly does not give a shit about not only his customers, but his friends either. The people that would do anything to help him out and he dosen't just turn his back on them, he openly screws them over for a quick buck. Truley a piece of shit.

BTW, I wonder what would happen if TB suddenly drops this product. Do you think ED would suddenly run out? Is TB making these for ed?
