eD or RE Subs?

I'm planning my new system for my car right now (Yay for tax return checks!) and am partially decided on what to get but I need your help.

I am thinking about getting the eD NINe.1 amplifier to power the sub, with the option of running another sub when I get more money.

From reading on the forum, it seems like many people are happy with RE and eD subs. I'm just not too sure which I should go with. I am looking at the RE SE 12" and the eD 13Ov.2 subs. Both have dual voice coils. Each runs at 600W RMS.

My first question, is will each of these subs be okay with the amplifier as an individual? The amplifier puts out 900W @2 Ohms which I will be running for a while until I get a second, where two subs will work perfect (1200W @ 1 Ohm). I just don't want the sub to "blow" or become destroyed.

My second question, is which sub would you recommend? I am exacly in the middle on the two of them and don't know which way to to go.

Thanks,

Anthony

Well not very many people, especially on this board have heard the Ov2s. According to the viagra addicts at the icix sound board they are unbelieveable. I even heard comparisons to the IDMAX which is quite a statement. I have heard an SE, it is a nice sub, gets very loud when installed properly, and can also sound pretty good. I think you would be happy with either sub, but if the Ov2 is all its cracked up to be, i'd say in the SQ realm the ov2 would be my choice.

i have personally run a pair of 12" SEs and a pair of

the original eD O series flat cones...

from what i hear the new Ov2s sound even better than

the flat cone O series... they just dont look as cool...

anyways... the old O series had to go sealed which gave

them a very punchy characteristic but they also hit

SUPRISINGLY LOW... the new O series i guess can be

ported which will most likely get them in the same

output league as the SEs... depending on install...

the SEs i ran sealed at first and liked them until i thought

i heard some weird popping... im afraid that that soured

me on them a little even after RE said they were ok...

what i did at that point was run a single SE ported... and man

oh man did that sub sound great... it was in 2.1^3 tuned

to 32hz and had this awesome warm sound to it... for better

or worse i sold the SEs and tried the XXX which i wont comment

on here...

i suppose its a toss up on which subs to get depending on

what you want... if you want to get your back beaten in

from punchy bass i would go with the eDs... if you want

more of a warm skull crushing bass go with the SEs...

the nine.1 would be a little too much for a single sub... but

if you watch the gains you can safely run either the O or the

SE from it... once you get the second that amp will be a

perfect fit... remember if youre going ported that you will

need less power to get lots of output...

at any rate... i am voting for you to get some eD subs... ive

run the flat cone Os... my girlfriend is currently running ONE

in a 1.8^3 sealed box off a memphis 1000D and it slams in

her sunfire...

im running a flat cone 15A eD sub and its fvcking amazing

compared to anything ive run before... im not saying that

its the best sub ever made... but i gave it a good install

and compared to what IVE RUN personally its the best

sub ive heard...

and dont listen to the eD haters who are just gonna come

here and talk smack about eD... there are plenty of people

who will stick up for them... but RE gets more respect around

here it seems... by far...

i would go a sound splinter or an ascendant audio avalanche. se's are sorta loud sound decent as for the eD i dunno but i know the ones i suggested get loud and sound VERY good and should handle that amp very well

Thanks Everyone!

You're comments about how the 13Ov.2 subs seem to be leading the pack is making me lean towards getting those. By getting the both the sub and amp through eD you even get a package deal of 15% off.

Thanks again for your help. It's always nice to get other opinions than those roaming through your head!

everything > eD > RE.

My REXXX ****** balls in a pexi-windowed box, then the customer service I got was horrendous, I also heard alot of people talk bad about them on the internet so they must ****.

disclaimer: i may not actually have had any experience with RE or their products, just bandwagon ED bashers

IBA thousand degrees.

I cant comment on the ed subs but I have had many dealings with RE audio and would reccomend them above any sub manufacture on the market with out hesitation.

solid products, solid people with solid customer service.

not once have I heard about a build house issue with RE (since they build thier subs in house) other companies like to blame the build house for every problem they have with the subs... that only goes so far..

Well, obviously...I have dealt with eD, they were fine to me...but I can understand where the other side comes from. Take it FWIW...buy them used if you have a problem with Ben personally.

Additinally, no need to reference "max" anything as those specs are useless. Most of know how to look at specs for a given speaker, amp, HU, etc...
