ED A Sealed Vs Vented

U going for sq or spl? These drives rock but don't port them if you have gobs of power. They will self distruct. Ported is great for spl but sealed is beter for sq. It also depends on what kind of space you have to play with.

Well I have only heard one sealed, and it sounded excellent. After reading Paikah's review in the review section, he was very unhappy with the performance of the A in a ported enclosure. But he said it did get loud. So like froggy said if you are after sq go with sealed, and unless you just want all out spl i would go sealed as well. But it also depends on what sort of power you will send them. I find it hard to believe that its not possible to make it sound good in a ported enclosure, but it may be a lot of work.

As long as you are careful with the frequencies you feed to it and correctly tune the enclosure the sub will handle just as much power with a ported as a sealed. Power handling goes to almost nothing below the tuning frequency of the enclosure. A sealed enclosure does not suffer from this limitation and can still handle power at lower frequencies. Above the tuning frequency a ported enclosure exhibits greater control of the cone than a sealed enclosure and can actually handle more power. The best way to figure out how much power you can throw at a sub is to model the enclosure in an enclosure design program that provides an excursion plot and check it out.

As far as sound, the ported enclosure will typically have more output from around 30-50 hz. Below that it drops off quickly and above that it roughly equals the sealed. Sealed generally takes the edge in transient response and extreme low frequency extension. The sound difference is noticable and the only person who can decide which is better is you.

i am going to get my box on wednesday and i will let u know how it sounds. i am getting the ported box with the exact dimensions and specs they give on the eD site for the ported box. i will be powering it with a rockford fosgate 451s which will give it 500 x 1 at 4ohm...

ill be ging for a mixture of both, ive had the 12A in a sealed, and it wasnt loud atall.. but perhaps it was the crqppy quality of the box i was using and the fact that my preouts arent putting out power worth crapl....

so ive heard that the ED rec box was good idea for a vented enclosure while behing loud and maintaining most of the SQ so i had one made. unfortunately the surround was punctured by the box builder and i was unable to listen to it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif so until that gets fixed ill just have to wait.

I'm going to run 600 watts to my 12a. I'm also going for a mixture of SQ and SPL. I'm thinking about going for the sealed, but i'm going to wait for coolmans review
