Eclipse Ti vs. IDMAX

Also doesnt the eclipse have a detachable cone? So if you do end up blowing it you can just get a new cone and put it on yourself? Maybe in thinking of another woofer tho //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif
Not a detachable cone per se, but it does have a Quick Change Assembly feature. You can detach the motor assembly from the frame/cone assembly and replace either instantly.

Which actually, does virtually nothing for the owner of the sub.

Should you ever require a recone, all the "Quick Change Assembly" feature is going to do is make the life of the person reconing it -- generally, somebody from an Eclipse repair facility or perhaps even a dealer -- a whole lot easier.

Unless you work at an aforementioned facility, the required parts are going to be very hard, if not impossible to come by. Cost wise, it's going to be the same if not more than a regular recone for your standard Joe-Schmoe SQL sub (XXX, W7, Brahma, IDMAX, Flatline, TDX, etc.) -- most likely a little more since it costs more to manufacture an assembly as opposed to a single part (basket, cone, motor, etc.)

Two thumbs up to Eclipse for good marketing skills -- who cares if the buyer doesn't benefit? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

Now you are talking. Most likely the parts are aquired from or through a local Eclipse dealer.

In response to your second paragraph, can this not be said for all manufacturers. Last time I checked it is very difficult to by a spider or a cone or a surround etc. individualy from JL, Adire, Diamond etc. No, most likely you send your entire sub in, after paying $50 in freight and then waiting weeks for its return. Ever checked on how much a recone is for a W7 outside of its warranty, $350 or more, if it the sub was purchased through an authorized dealer with an intact serial number. I can tell you that it is cheaper to replace the Ti basket yourself not to mention zero to no down time.

So if you read below, it sounds to me like the QCA system is a very efficient and fast way of repairing your Ti in a cost effective manor. Just like they bill it, weird.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

"The expanded size and weight of high performance subwoofers can cause serious difficulties when service or maintenance is required, or for a case when the speaker cone has been physically damaged. QCA technology is the result of ECLIPSE engineers devising a speaker design that would allow a single speaker to be split into two by unlocking the two sections. It was important that the design would not compromise speaker performance. The resulting QCA design facilitates replacing a damaged speaker cone in a few moments, making sure there's minimal down time. This innovative technology has been incorporated into several subwoofer models and contributes greatly to keeping even the most complex subwoofer systems in perfect order"

BOX!!!!! They call me the mortititioner, I've been putting people in boxes all day.

Let me say it again, the Eclipse Titanium is a great subwoofer. To this point, this thread has merely been a dicussion/comparison between the two subs mentioned by the original poster -- IDMAX 12" vs. Eclipse Ti 9152

If I didn't have my current setup, I would consider using either or (in a rear deck infinite baffle setup).

There's no doubt in my mind, that it's an efficient and most likely faster method of repair than a standard recone -- for the person doing the recone. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Ultimately I'd assume it costs roughly the same.

Cost for standard recone (a bunch of subwoofer parts + hours of labor to assemble it all)

=

Cost of Ti recone (a big-*** subwoofer assembly + the cost for the compnany to assemble + the 15 minutes of labor required to put a new cone on an existing motor).

I'm just curious how much the actual assembly costs (outside of assembly of course). It's a well-known fact that dub7 recones are pricey (it's already an expensive subwoofer) so let that be the exception.

Allow me to stoke the fire of my own thread... Lets throw a JL 12W6v2 into the mix. I know it doesn't have the power handling ability of the other two per se', but i have heard many good things (on this board included) about its SQ.

I have the opportunity to get as follows

1. IDMAX V3 D2 for $220 shipped

2. JL Audio 12W6v2 for $225 shipped

3. Eclipse Ti...who knows??? anyone looking to part with one? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

You get the Max, then tell me where you are getting the 12w6v2 for $225 shipped from and I'll pick up that one //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Ok it's down to the 12W6v2 or the 12" IDMax v2d2. Let us not forget I have a 1200 watt amp at 2 ohm and 600 watt at 4 ohm. Would i blow the W6 up???? That really is my main concern.

Also since I can get both for the same price, which is a better deal? I feel corporate america and MTV Whips telling me to get the W6 because its JL and JL is "da coolest evar". I don't want to fall into the brand whoring, i just want the best SQL for my amp for the money.

thanks guys

Colin

Still say id max here. I have heard many differnet setups with the w6v2 and they do sound good. Only heard the Ti in one setup and wasnt impressed. Could have been the install. I have seen about 3 setups with id subs and it has sold me. I will be getting 2 of them in the summer, hopefully, but then again I am getting married in october so who knows.
