I have tried both amps in bridged mode to power my JBL GTO638 speakers. So, since the JBL's are "2 ohm" supposedly I was feeding them over 160w rms with the alpine, and over 140w with the Eclipse.
Here's my question, why does the eclipse sound a bit lacking in power? Actually, it sounded like about as much power in bridged mode as the alpine did when I tried it in 4ch mode...? The Alpine actually produced enough power to make these speakers produce a noticeable smell when I turned the gain/volume up too high during testing.
The Alpine MRV F400S is rated at 60w RMS X 4ch @ 4OHM, 80w RMS X 4ch @ 2OHM AND 160w RMS X 2ch @ 4OHM BRIDGED, RATED 14.4V."
The Eclipse EA3422 is supposed to be 50w rmsx4 @4, 70wx4@2, and 140x2ch @4ohm
Is this oldschool Alpine amp quite a bit more underrated power-wise than this Eclipse...or did I miss bridged mode on the Eclipse somehow? -I used the 2 outside speaker terminals, and the L input (mono) on channels 1 and 3..as well as set the switch to 2ch mode.
Anyone??..input?? -I expected the 2 amps to be imperceptibly less/more powerful..curious if anyone is familiar with both.
