Dynamat?

Most people have the common problem when first installing a system.... Rattling.... Not only does this decrease preformance but it down right sounds like shit... Most people use sound deadener for a quick fix. The thing i was wondering was would some high quality wood work better? (i.e. maple, cherry wood, ebony, etc...) My uncle, who is a home audio nut focuses on these aspects.. he spends hundred of thousands of dollars for his speakers, turntables, amplifiers, etc.... He said for better sound acoustics to use wood (thats why his interior walls are lined with maple wood.) it deflect sound waves and shit... iuno... so if i lined my trunk with high quality wood would it stop rattle and imporve my speakers preformace? what would you think is better deadener or wood? thx

I believe deadener works well because it adheres to the metal, dampens vibrations, conforms to the metal, adds weight to it, and to a certain degree has sound absorbing properties.

I don't think you can get the same performance out of wood.

Go with deadner. You know that lining your trunk with wood will make it a little heavy? You might as well fill it with concrete. A couple layers of sound deadner will work wonders.

For home audio, your uncle is right, but wood isn't practical in car audio, unless you have hundreds of thousands of dollars to spend, but I don't think your results would be that much better than deadener, and then you would have to worry about termites in your car.

You could start with 2 layers of either FatMat or Second Skin. They are just as good as Dynamat and cost much less. I went with Fatmat (1layer) but before I applied it I sprayed my trunk with a rubber undercoating. I will probably apply another layer next year when spring/summer get here.

save the wood for the ladies //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

or the subwoofer enclosure

Dampers work well because they ad weight to the panels and lower the resonant frequency. making the same panel more difficult to flex with the same power.

wood would act as a barrier, not a damper or absorber.

wood is comooonly used in homes, and some older studios to help reduce or redirect sound waves.

not a good solution for cars

check out the following alternatives to dynamat

edead

brownbread

fatmat

rammat

Second Skin

If you or anyone else has tech or install questions I am always happy to help. even if you dont use second skin

also

the hood liner will work well if matched with some other materials.

Dampen the hood with a damper first

then do the hood liner

then dampen the fire wall

that is the best way to tackle it

sorta. you dont really hear much bass with the window rolled down anyways. all you hears is the bass vibrating the trunk to all hell

damping the trunk will keep the energy inthe cabin, and will make the bass in the cabin louder. so when you do roll the windows down, more pressure will leave from the windows since it is not leaving through the week trunk

i like my ss //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif only person round here to have it i think...

but i haven't done my trunk lid (kinda hesitant since you see the lid and everything else is covered) so the bass hits pretty good but seems to rattle the lid more, so i guess in theory it is working good //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Very interesting comment I never thought of it that way. Do you have any idea what is the difference b/twn dynamat and the extreme. Also do you know anything about the dampening circuit city carries? is it as good as dynamat?
