dynamat vs. hushmat?

Coleman at Audio Technix has built a strong market in this forum and in my opinion he deserves every penny he recieves. He brings forth a strong product provides ample test results to show how well/not well it does vs it's competitors. Now thats just the product alone, as far as customer service Coleman is on the ball very prompt transactions and shipment in a professional manner. I've never seen him make false claims once. I don't know why I would ever need more then 60mil for car audio purposes, maybe for road noise and insulation but for actual audio purposes AT 60 will fulfill your ever deadening need at a fair price, In my experience it is a good product with a good price and great customer service. There may be other companies out there that provide the same service, but unfortunately for them they aren't a vendor on this site and I haven't had experience with them. Part of the reason I have no experience with them is because I went through a few deadner companies throughout the years and I keep coming back to AT, it's the best deadner I've ever stumbled upon.

I know sound deadener is a topic that seems to get people charged up about, but lets remember to keep the discussion respectful. Insulting other members is not allowed here. Calling people names is not allowed here. And thread dumping by altering the topic of the thread from what the OP wants is not allowed here.

I have gone through and deleted the more heinous replies. I considered deleting replies that weren't about the two brands the OP asked for, but for the sake of an open debate, and since the OP seems to be getting useful info from it, Im leaving them. But again, this thread has gotten a bit out of hand and Im asking that some of you guys take it down a notch. I should have given out an infraction for a couple of the deleted posts, but for now Im keeping it a request to remember the rules here.

Thank you.

none...only thing i would get is audio technix....it has been test proven on several levels to out perform the other companies and even has been acoustically tested to out perform as well! only other company that is comparable is second skin...they are on par with eachother but audio tecnix is cheaper and has a more agressive adheisive...will stand up to the hottest day and not come off.
All the other companies and products tested against it huh?

does anyone have pics they would be willing to share of a 25% installation in their vehicle? i am having a hard time getting my head around where the 25% should be applied. seems like i have always seen the whole door covered and the middle third of the trunk. i was thinking of doing the roof and floors as well, especially in my truck since i am pulling the whole interior including the dash for glassing and flocking.

I try to use enough material to cover 25% of the panel, spread out over the central 40-50%. Here's the theoretical ideal on an open panel like a roof:

Doors get a little more complicated (in theory):

The blue rectangle is the stock material.

The black horizontal bars are the side impact beams.

The Black square is a steel structural element attached to the outer skin.

The yellow rectangles are vibration damper.

The key concept here is that the side impact beams are bonded to the outer skin. They are that way from the factory in this Civic. I fill the gap on cars where they aren't connected.

The side impact beams effectively divide the outer skin into 3 "virtual" panels. Target the centers of each one.

Treating the roof with vibration damper is almost always a good idea. Floors usually need no or very little supplemental damping. They are reinforced at many points and usually have a lot of material installed at the factory. You really need to add a barrier for noise reduction on the floor.

I was very impressed with my Dynamat Xtreme install. Completely changed the sound and behaviour of my truck.

Forgot to mention my mat is over 6 years old, we've seen 112 degrees and 4 degrees. Not a single sheet has even thought about coming off.

Thank you for the information. I can't seem to see your photos for some reason. not sure why. i would really like to see them. did you host them somewhere?

Try clearing your cookies, or using a different browser to view the pics. Or you can try putting the link to the pics directly in your address bar and viewing them that way.
