DVD unit won't play dvd's

some of you may have seen my thread asking for help installing a pioneer AVH-P4000 dvd unit, well i have it installed and it runs cd's/radio just fine.

The problem is it won't play dvd's while parked, not even while the ignitions is off. I didn't ground through the parking brake though i just ran a ground to the chassis, would the unit be able to pick up on this?
