Alpine CDA-9886 UP IN F'IN SMOKE!? WTF??

How did you connect the wires? Solder, heatshrink, or just twist and tape? I learned from experience that twist and tape is a fire waiting to happen. I had a Pioneer in my old Camary once and smoke started coming from the dash, all my lights and gauges dies, and it turns out that the power wire heated up and undid itself, touching metal ground plates inside the dash shorting everything out. Drove home with nothing but headlights that night.
