Gettin a new laptop, and it has a DVD player/burner. I want to encode my DVD's to my HD. What is the best DVD Ripper? Also, what is the best quality format to rip them too? MGEG, AVI, DIVX, etc...Oh, and also, what is the best software to make exact dulicates of a DVD to a DVD? Thanks.

DVD Decryptor in IFO mode, and then use Auto Gordian Knot to encode (both free, search google). I also have a program called DVD X Copy Platinum that will copy an entire DVD to another DVD within 30 mins.

DVD Decrypter and Auto Gordian Knot are probably the 2 best tools you will ever find for DVD's.

Does that DVD X Copy maintain the exact DVD quality, and the menus and such?

Also, when you copy to your hard drive, is it still the DVD quality? And how long does it take to write it to a vid file?

It copies everything perfect, menu's, extra features, etc... it just copies the disc byte for byte. It takes about 30 mins to complete the copy for me. The program does add a 10 second intro to each DVD saying it was copied by DVD X Plat, to prevent piration of DVD's. You could always use Alcohol 120% in .iso mode though, and it works the same.

LOL hey I just noticed that someone else on here actually lives in Idaho!!

Most movies need to be shrunk to fit on a 4.7g disc. Shrinking them does cost you a little bit of the quality but 99% of the time it isn't noticable. And yes you can keep all the menus, subtitles and differant audio if you want.

Then there is always dual layer discs and the movie needs no shrinking to fit on those but they cost $$$$

bitRipper is the best one.... Its TOTALLY free... works AWESOME.

Try it out.

If the dvd your trying to rip is protected then just play the dvd really quickly and then click RIP as its playing then just stop playing it. Quick way I learned to get around //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
