Dvd play make batt go dead?

Hi guys I have a Pioneer indash DVD play/screen its like 6600 or something like that

but any way my battery keeps going dead on my truck. My multi meter is showing a 8-9 volt draw when every thing is off. So I started to trace the wires and I got to the back of my deck unplugged the deck and the draw goes to .056. So I took my deck to the bench and hooked the always hot to the battery and put my meter in line on the ground side and it is showing a 5-6 volt draw. What is wrong??? do I need to take it in to a shop to get it worked on?

well it is not drawing enough current to begin with. U should be seeing like 12-12.5 volts.

when the truck running and the stero is on i sure it will draw 12vs but. when it is turned off it should draw a small amount for the clock and preset memory. It should not draw as much as it is. it only takes my battery a few hours to go dead

a basic electrical system should draw around 12v with the car off. 14.4 with the car on.

If your using your DVD player and sound system for a few hours on an older battery, im not really surprised that you might be draining it. However, a constant voltage that low is not good.

almost every thing in the car should be 12volt with the car in ACC . But when on it should be around 13-14 volts.

Yeah i think there might be some issues with the way that you are taking your measurments...

Are you testing for voltage or current/amps.... what setting is your meter on ?

Where and how are your test probes connected.

If you have deep cycled your battery a couple of times already then your battery will continue to be at risk for going dead more often and under shorter periods of time.

First thing that you'll want to do is take your meter and set it to amps.

next with the ignition off, pull the fuse for the radios constant power wire. Then put your probes in the two slots of the fuse holder. This will measure the amount of current the radio is pulling at static and will tell you if the radio is the cause. This procedure is good to use at the battery if your not sure which component is the cause or if your unsure if there is even a problem.

Remember to use a good high quality meter with a high enough current capability....most meters are rated for 10amps max....but as long as you don't turn any of your components on while testing you shouldn't have any problems with your meter...

Set DMM to DCV (dc voltage) and place + on battery +, and - on batter -. You should get around 12 with the engine off and somewhere around 14 with the engine on.

That's a good way to cook multimeters...

Most will not go much past 5A of DC current.

If you want to read what your system is actually doing, get a true RMS clamp meter, that allows you to measure current in series without actually breaking the circuit. But this is OT from what the original problem was. Has every battery you put in the truck done this? Or have you not switched out batteries yet...

I have put a new battery in and it has gone dead,

I place a test light in between the + on the battery and the starter lead, the light lights up nearly full. I can unplug my stereo and the light gose out
