dvd/cd/mp3 head units...

hi there...its my first post. I have dabbled a bit with car audio installations before but needed some advice......

Firstly I want a good quality sounding (& looking) head unit with mp3, I am looking at the Pioneer 9650 or 8650 or alpine 9835 models, I think im gonna go for the 9650 or 8650.

What I want to do is connect a motorized el-cheapo LCD monitor to the head unit (I have double DIN), so i believe the head unit has to have Aux in right? only prob is you need to purchase an extra adapter unit for the Pioneer HU's ;-( which is pretty crappy when you paying so much $$ for a HU.

Anyway, with the aux in would i be able to connect the el cheapo monitor?? then also connect either a ps2 or xbox to the lcd monitor?? I want to use the game console to play DVD's and games from....

From here all i will need is a 12v power converter/adapter for the game console...??

I would prefer a HU that can play DVD/mp3/cd but they are pretty rare it seems...only seen the JVC DV5000 which looks a little bland, I think there is a kenwood too but i would prefer something with a little more eye candy...

Or are there any DVD/mp3/cd changer units i could buy to suit a head unit as i cant seem to find any!! this would avoid me having to get a seperate DVD player or using the Ps2 or xbox (only for games)

So just to clarify...

1/ I just need Aux in on the head unit to connect an LCD monitor? this will allow me to hear DVD through all speakers (with an Amp connected)?

2/ Can i connect the gaming console to the LCD via an 'Aux In' on the LCD?

3/ Anyone know of decent DVD/mp3/CD Head Units?

Any help is greatly appreciated.....

Cheers

Here is my best attempt at understanding what you want,

1. You would like a HU that allows for Aux In (Audio wise) so that you can connect an LCD to it? You want to know if this is possible and if you would have to amp your speakers in order to achieve this?

A. There are alot of HU's out there that allow for Aux audio In.

- Alpine CDE-9845

- Sony CDX-R5515X

- Panasonic CQ-C5401U

- Blaupunkt Bahamas MP34

- Clarion ADB340MP

- Rockford Fosgate RFX9420

* Note: Your HU is the heart of your sound, so if you buy a cheapo HU expect chepo sound.

B. In order for you to hook up your LCD to your HU, the LCD must have Audio outputs which you can connect to the HU. This is my recommened way of doing it.

C. Another option to there not being any Audio ouputs to your LCD is that you can run you Audio straight from your PS2 to your HU and that would work fine as well.

D. If there is none, you can always use the LCD head phone output and plug that into your HU. How, get a cable from any store with electronics, Radio Shack is garanteed to find it, that has a mini jack or head phone jack to Male RCA. These are relativly cheap.

E. You don't NEED an amplifier. It all depends on you and how you like your sound.

2. You want to hook up your PS2 to your LCD to run movies, and games, etc. Is it possible?

A. Yes this is possible, Purchase an LCD you want, And plug it in and then run audio according to above.

There are a number of different websites out there where you can purchase good car electronics for cheap. This is a good place to start, people normally want to upgrade and so they are selling cheap other sites include.

Ebay.com

Nextag.com

SoundDomain.com

Autotoys.com

Caraudioonline.com

These should be enough to get you started.

Hopefully this answers your questions if you have any more i will do my best to answer them

I just re read you thread, and noticed that you wanted an HU that had Aux In without an adapter. So here are some HU's that i found and other sites where you can find them.

1. Kenwood KVT-715DVD

2. Kenwood KVT-815DVD

3. Kenwood DDX7015

4. Sony XAV-A1

5. Alpine IVA-D901

6. Panasonic CQ-VD7500U

7. Sanyo ECD-T1580DV

8. Pioneer AVH-P5700DVD

9. Alpine IVA-D901

These are in no particular order, but they should help you get started.

Here are some other sites for you to search.

* Crutchfield Search for HU Dvd/mp3/cd receivers

* Ebay Bay Stereo Store

* Cardomain

* NexTag

* Online Car Stereo

I did look at all those units but I think hes looking for a single din HU that plays everything with an aux in (or out would he need?) and then a cheap flipout monitor for his display.

If thats what you're looking for (OP) then I'll let you know I tried this way myself and came up with not much. There is a way, but it didn't seem worth it to myself. There are HUs that have displays and radios only (no disc drive/slot at all) and there are 1 or 1/2 DIN dvd players (which play cds as well).

Here are some options for you if this is what you're looking for:

Monitor-

1/2 DIN dvd player-

Or you can go with a high quality HU that plays everything and then a cheap monitor that doesn't do anything besides your display.

Hi guys....cheers for the replies..

My main aim was to get hold of a single din HU that played mp3/cd with am/fm radio.... Thats why i was gonna stick with the pioneer 8650 or 9650. These HU's have aux input with a special pioneer adapter. So the HU will be fine. Head Unit Purchase

I was then going to connect a single DIN LCD monitor (ebay el-cheapo). LCD Monitor Purchase

The method of installation was going to be connect the audio out leads on the game console direct to the head unit (or amp) and the (ps2) video out lead directly to the LCD monitor for visuals.

Then I would purchase a power adapter/convertor (220v to 12v) to the ps2 to allow power. PS2 Convertor Purchase

I should then be able to pick up TV, watch DVDs and play games all via the playstation...All the sound coming from all speakers (when the HU is switched on to AUX).

Im pretty sure this should all work ok providing I have the inputs/outputs on the equipment, what do you guys reckon?

Thanks

Skoob

It should work if the HU has audio IN and plays everything you want besides video and the PS2 plays everything else. As for el cheapo I'd go with power acoustik. Pyle (of shit) and Lanzar ****, but are about the same price as the power acoustik.
