DuPont Amplifier and possibly blown subs?

So my friend wanted me to install some cheap shit into his car today so he had some bass to bump with, nothing special, some MTX's and an amplifier made by DuPont (never heard of them) hooked everything up, but the amplifier stays in protect mode.

When we first hooked it up the whole amp filled with smoke at which point i was convinced the amp was done for, but then the lights on the amp turned on and it stopped producing a shit ton of smoke and it went straight into protect mode. Now my friend is pretty broke and if this doesn't work at all he's got nothing to bump to. If the subs he has are blown will the amp go into protect mode?

When you check blown subs with a DMM what should it read... because when i checked the coils on his subs it just went crazy and just kept showing random numbers, it didnt show a 1 for infinite resistance or any of that... both of his subs were doing this when checked with the DMM.

The subs should show the impedance of the voice coils... for example if you have one dual voice coil 4 ohm subwoofer wired in parallel it should show 2 ohms, wired in series would show 8 ohms. In my experience if the DMM is showing a bunch of different numbers the subwoofer may be blown, but make sure you have a good contact with the wires or terminals. Also your finger touching the + or - on the DMM will result in that so make sure you're not touching it. As for the amp going into protect after smoke, that might mean the amp is toast. Normally smoke coming from electronics is not a good thing. Now are you sure the smoke came from the amp and not the subwoofers?

I would check that the amp is grounded properly also. Hope I was some help... someone with more knowledge hopefully will chime in.

smoke definitely came from amp... I'm used to them not turning on after smoke, but this one turned on afterwards which is what was so confusing...

I checked the ground too, it was solid enough.

My finger might have been on the leads when i was testing I'll check again...
