But i have 4 15's upfiring in my hatch and i am trying to find the tuning of the box and i want to make sure i get my measurements right. Since they are upfiring and the box is flat what measurements would i use to find the cross sectional area? The port measurements are 32.5"L, from my hatch to backseat, 6"W, from passenger to driver side, and 16.25"D, the measurement i get from putting a tape measure in the port. Anyway i am trying to find out what numbers i would use for the formula. Would i multiply 16.25 x 6 or 32.5 x 6 to find the cross sectional area?

the cross section or area of the port is the height by the width of the actual port.

its different if its a round port. i dont remember my basic math for that one.

No.

Port area is height x width. Basically, how big the opening of the port is.

So in your case the port area would be 32.5 * 6 = 195in^2 of port area, regardless of the orientation of the enclosure.

If the measurements you gave us are accurate then yes, that is your port's cross-sectional area. 195in^2
