Dual voice coil wiring

I know what the standard procedure for wiring a dvc sub in parallel is. My question is, would it work the same if I just use both outputs on the amp to each coil? It is a mono amp by the way, but just wondering about using it like this because I don't want to shave down the 12 ga. wire I have and it wont fit two in a terminal like it is. Just to be clear what I'm saying is + and + from amp to + and + on the sub and - and - from amp to - and - to sub.
