Dual Voice Coil Subs...

Im about to buy 2 15" alpine type r's but im not completely sure what the amp is...im lookin at JBL 600.1 and 1200.1 they're dual voice coil subs and i wuz jus wonderin could i give EACH COIL the rated RMS which is 500W...i hear these subs r tough as hell and really underrated but with a 1200.1, could i send 600W to each voice coil?? thnx ne help is appreciated.

haha. u would blow ur subs outta the water..those type r's are ONLY 300 rms for both voice coils.

hrm you prolly could, but i wouldnt...

it would be safer to send them only 300 to each coil, so 600 total persub, so 1200 watts at 2 ohms....

send each sub 600 watts, and you shall be VERY happy...

It is my belief that the Type R's are underrated and can deal with 500-600 watts RMS no problem.

15" can handle 500 watts rms. 10" and 12" can only handle 300.

Dual Voice coils are not for power they are for wiring.

By having dual voice coils it allows you to wire your sub up to pull much different types of ohms so you can work with a more vartiey of amps.

Example:

lets say you have 3 Audiobahn Alums 10 inch, which are dual 6 ohm that means 3 ohm or 12 ohm operation 800 watts rms;

If you wire all the subs in paralell-paralell that means all +'s to the + of the amp and all the -'s to the - of the amp it will pull 1 ohm. If you use the 2300 hcx audiobahn amp which is rated at 2400 watts rms at 1ohm, you divide that by 3 (number of subs of course) which will be 800 watts rms per sub. pretty simple.

i would recommend looking, i've yet to find any other website that tells dvc wiring options.
